Washers keep splitting - Rotary cleaner
« on: February 02, 2012, 03:55:53 pm »
Hi.

I have a flat surface cleaner - model Kiam VT62 (Don't slate me, its an entry level)

The problem is the seals keep splitting on the small metal insert inside the housing (see pic) and water pressure gets released through the pressure release hole.

I have a 6.5hp pressure washer and it's not too powerful for the rotary cleaner.

I've spoke to supplier who tells me it has to be my fault that grit has got in there. Last time I bought the part, I cleaned out the unit and the lance, put filter on water and it still only lasted 1 hour.

Has anybody had this problem? Is there a solution? Could I take out this small pice and weld up the release whole so water has to flow through and out of the jets.

Any help appreciated, as I can't keep paying £12 for a new one every time.

I'm sure someone on here will have a whirl-a-way for you mate for about £200. Invest in one and leave the chinese snides alone.

Mate my advice would be the same.  You are better off having good quality gear.  Pay Cheap!  Pay Twice!!  We have all been there not a lot of dosh to splash about but if you are trying to do professional work  and charging professional money you need professional gear.

I appreciate the responses, but i'm trying to find out if the unit I have can be fixed or adapted to stop this happening.

Buying a better quality unit is obvious and not what i'm looking for at the moment.

I expect it'll be relatively easy to fix it but it'll be doomed to repeated failiures but to inferior design / quality. Do you have any photos or the parts in question ? I would have lied and denied knowing the make  :-X Hand it to Matt he's driving past early Saturday morning and I'll look at it   ;D

Thanks for the offer.

The offending item is very easy to replace. I was wondering more if it has to be there at all. It seems to just funnell the water to the rotary head unit.

I'll try taking the unit out and blocking the release hole and see what happens.

I have plans to buy a new one soon but don't just want to bin this one, so I'll play about with it without having to worry about damaging it more.
