As I said on the other thread, if you can substantially reduce the time frame between customer paying and contractor getting their money then I'll be interested.

Neil, I agree, it's longer than taking a cheque!!

One of the benefits of taking plastic should be we get paid straight in the bank -quicker!

This is going backwards not forwards.

Long term when cheques a phased out il get a merchant account and go alone.

In reply to Craig's earlier post...

The way we work, to keep the cost of the service down, is to settle transactions once a week.

This means any transaction you take on SSMTWTF week 1 are bulk settled on Thursday in week 2.  So the wait for Sunday's business is much longer than Fridays I'm afraid!

If you collect on Fridays then you only wait 4 working days.

It's a difficult balance, however we think it's far better not having to pay rental or minimum usage charges as this works out expensive if you don't take many card payments from customers.

Thanks for the feedback anyway, I will tell the boss! Hope this helps.

We have used WorldPay for the past 7 years for card payments and, until January 2012, we had to wait 30 days before payment was put into our bank account.  Last month they implemented new terms and now it's only a wait of one week....massive improvement!  ;D

still working on a TACCA deal latest offer is

£35.99 PCI compliance fee (not sure if 1 off payment or yearly fee)

Rental £25.99 plus vat per month, includes full insurance and chose of networks, slightly dearer for roaming card.

Service charge £12.50 per month

debit cards 16 pence

credit cards 1.3%

18 month contract
.................................................

if i can get the service charge at zero then we're good to go.

Payatrader

One off payment of £74 and that's it.
Put the interest charge on their bill.

right my two pennys worth for what it matters .  If i only occasionally accepted cc or debit payment or just want to give custys the option  i would prob go with the virtual terminal .   but for someone like myself who does 90 % transactions through a pin terminal its expensive .  i average between 4-5 k a month through the machine and i only accept debits so its 14p per transaction.    if i were to pay 3% it would be 150 a month   so no way would i do that .  my terminal costs me 24 a month and my transaction charges rarely go above a tenner. I payed no setup fee and have no minimum on the merchant account and the money hits my account 4 working days after the trans.    when you take into account time spent trooping off to the bank and the cash handling charges and bank charges involved in paying in  its prob about the same money .  i now do not accept cheques especially for eot jobs as i know when the card goes in the machine and is accepted the money is mine no more chasing rubber cheques.

Not sure what Payatrader charges for debit cards
it just says Visa/Mastercard.
Whatever it is though you just add it to their bill
unless it's pennies.

That sounds more reasonable Richard, what kind of machine is i and from whom?

Derek - at the moment I am cash and cheques only, been put off card machines by the add on costs.

it was through handepay  i took a 5 year deal to get terminal rental as cheap as poss. i negotiated hard on the transaction fees at the time  .   terminal is an ingenico .  works well in most areas and considering its pretty rural in my area its rare not to get a signal.

Hi Paul,

It's not a phone app as such but a mobile optimised site that you can reach at www.payatrader.mobi.

When you go to this site it bring up simplified screen for taking the payment via your mobile.

Linda
