Should I buy a new varistream?
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:33:25 pm »
My Varistream digital has burnt out so was just wondering if this is still the best set up or not. I did try an alternative one a couple of years ago which was not good at all.

Just asking before i go and order a new one, i seem to recall that a few of you dont use these pressure flow regulators at all! But i cant find any threads on it. When i first started 6 years ago wfp i used the built in pressure switch then turned to an analogue varistream.

i run two varistream to two shurflo 100psi pumps individually and onto microbore!

Thanks Craig

I think you should. As it happens I have one that's only one week old or another that is two years old.

I use one, i cant see how its good sense not to.  Can control flow/pressure, rather than relying on the pump which is preset.

Id get another in a flash.

Bought one and thought it was faulty, bought another about two days later and it was the same proving the problem lay elsewhere! Bought two Varistreams I didn't need!

sorry, been watching telly. The older one probably £30 nothing wrong with it but would need wiring to the blocks inside because I kept the wiring on the van. The new one I used for ten minutes so probably looking for £60 inc postage. I'm in Wilts.
I'll keep the other new one on the van.

If you are used to a flow controller then yes you should replace the burned out controller. There are better units than Varistream but then I am Biased ;D

Check the WFP suppliers who offer a very good alternative to the VS

Sorry Craig, someone's just smashed into my van and it's off the road. I might need to use one to make up a system in a hire van to get me going again.

CS are distributors of our controller.

I am interested in why you feel it was not as good - How could it have been better?

The VS is a good control we feel the differences between the the VS and our Control offers more flexibility

Ian, if I may hijack this post a minute. When your controller reaches pressure does the pump stop completely? I thought I had a controller problem (not one of yours). Only my pump can still be heard to run very slowly even though pressure is reached - any ideas?

Hi Mark

I am assuming the control is a digital one with DE (flow off)

Is the controller going into DE? In DE the pump will appear to pulse every few seconds - This is the controller retesting to see if the water flow has been restored.

Also can I ask have you got the pump pressure switch fitted?

Yes it's a brand new digital one. The pump pulses as I would expect and all goes quiet when 'p' pressure is reached. However when it's not pulsing I can hear the pump rotating slowly presumably still pressurising the system. Pressure switch disconnected.
