I think January is the best time of year to pick up new work, that and November seems good too

I have just been canvassing (door-knocking) today between 12 - 4pm and got £120 worth of new work.

If people want their windows cleaned, then they want them cleaned... Why would they feel any different over Christmas time?

It's actually a good time to find the mums home (school holidays), who are normally the ones who make the decision on whether they want a window cleaner or not.

Andrew McCann had great success during January of this year - though he clearly worked his socks off.

It's OK Matt.

Mother in Law will get me sum socks for Xmas  ;D

Leaflets do work.. to a point. I get calls from ones I put out a year ago every now and then. Got to say though that just cant beat doorknocking. I knocked loads of houses between Xmas and New Year last year and did very well indeed. I carried on during Jan and it resulted in somewhere around £3000 new business every 4 weeks. There were 2 of us at it though so you could say it should be £1500. I have just had a quick reckon up and in all at 2 hrs per night it took around 40 hrs to get the £1500 coz I didnt do every night. If you take a break and do say 3 nights a week for 2 hrs its very managable and the results soon mount up.

I agree with Andy from Southern as well. He who dares wins!!  :)

Cheers

Andrew

I've been canvassing myself over the Xmas period and have also used the services of Paul at Doorknockers. The results have been extremely pleasing (Paul's slightly better than mine) and although some people have asked for the 1st clean to be in January, they've still committed to using me - most just want them doing straight away.

You can also give people the option 'Would you like them doing now, or leaving til the New Year' it's a better close than a 'Yes/No' question.

Either way I reckon it's well worthwhile going canvassing and leafletting in Xmas, there's more people at home, people are in a slightly better mood than normal, and if you sense that money's tight for them you can come across as caring, compassionate window cleaner by suggesting that they leave it til January.
