Visible marks after cleaning carpet
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:43:21 am »
I am a complete newbie in the industry and have recently purchased a Prochem Steampro Machine as I will be starting this as my business and will be doing the training this week. However I did a practice session on my in laws bathroom carpet, The issue is that there are visible marks on the carpet what seems to be from when I was doing the pre-spray with the spray machine. BTW I was using Prochem Multipro to do the prespray . I am thinking that either I did not spray evenly or I did not dilute the chemical correctly. I diluted 450ml with 3 liters of water (The dilution rate of multipro is 125ml to every 1 liter of water. I used Prochem Woolsafe to clean the carpet. What is interesting is that the carpet still has dirty marks (the line markings that I am confused about are mainly around the dirty marks). Basically it look as if I drew around the dirty marks. Any explanation or advice will be most welcome as I do need to understand why this has happened and more importantly how can I resolve the issue? I am happy to forward any photos if required.

Bathrooms tend to have some very unusual stains due to the products used in there. Anything from Hemmeroid creams to perfume.
Maybe these marks required stain removal techniques rather than just a straight clean. Have a practice some more on other rooms and preferably take some training. You should have got a free course with your machine, thats if it was bought new.

I would wait til after you've done your training before cleaning any more. I only say that, because even with friends and family, you want to get the best possible results (they'll still provide word of mouth recommendations).
Good training should not only answer your questions, but provide you with the knowledge to work out answers for yourself (if that makes sense?).
Anyway, good luck with it.

Thanks for your reply. I am getting 1 day free training with Prochem and yes I agree after training I will be better equipped to understand and resolve such issues. However would it be best if I forward a photo of the markings to establish the reason for the markings and also how to resolve the issue? Please advise.

I'm sure that if you upload a pic someone will be able to tell you the problem.

Just checking, but how much of the 3.5 litres of prespray did you put down and what type of sprayer did you use?

I diluted 450ml of multipro with 3 litres of water. I used a 5l Rono Matic spray machine.

But how much did you actually put down?

I normally put down between 1 and 1.5 litres in a LOUNGE (granted, the houses round here are not massive)

So would you say that I did not dilute multipro with water correctly to prespray the carpet and as a result the visible marks are shown. If that is the case shall I simply redo the floor and ensure that I dilute correctly? Thanks for your comments.

I put about 2 to 2.5 litres.

Too much prespray by far.

Go over it again but be a bit less generous.

Also, did you confirm the fibre prior to cleaning?

It looks like, someone has been using vanish or fairy liquid to clean stains. Was there a lot of foam in the waste tank.Did you go over the carpet several times or just one pass which is a waste of time. The solutions you used are bullet proof on any carpet .An acid rinse may help, you have done your best.yassoo

Not being funny but is that photo from before or after the carpet was cleaned?!

No I did not confirm the fibre. I now know this was obviously a big error on my part. Hopefully after the training this week with Prochem I will understand the methods & processes better. Also the reason why I sprayed so much was because I felt the carpet was so dirty that it needed the amount of spray that I did.
Unfortunately the image is after the clean. Would you suggest if I used the Prochem Fabric & Fibre to clean the carpet & diluted the Multipro with water correctly then I should in theory have much better results. I will be
re-doing the carpet again hence the question. Please advise.

Get the training day done. Take the picture, speak with the instructors, listen to their advice then give it another go.

At least you've learned that you need to learn.

Good post. Don't get disheartened, this time next week your methods of attacking it will probably be completely different.
