They are not the same as the standard ones used on most cleaning machines. We used them 30 years ago and the do not last long with liquids being for air. They also do not have shut offs on the male component so dribble everywhere when disconnected.
Try  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-HYDRAULIC-QUICK-RELEASE-COUPLINGS-3-8-BSP-ISO-FF-/200609643772?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2eb5443cfc

They sound as if they are ok. UK made.
God must love stupid people---He made so many.

These are good fittings (above) but the male ends you have WILL NOT fit. They look the same but on these ones the male ends are shorter. If you buy the ones above you WILL need to buy a male end aswell. If you want a cheap female that will fit try this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-4-Brass-Female-Quick-Connector-/270891216701?pt=UK_HomeGarden_CLV_Cleaning_CA&hash=item3f125fef3d
