What type of hose is best for you and why?
« on: December 17, 2005, 08:25:34 pm »
I'd like to do a poll but I don't know all the sizes available.

However, What size/type hose do you use and why?

I'm sure I am not the only one who might learn something from this.

microbore, 11.5mm od, 6mm id.

doesn't get caught up, lighter, easier to wind, and more controlled flow rate, more hose on your reel.

The list goes on. Thats why I have been using this for 3 years now.

Is it available in yellow? - better visibility to lessen trip hazard.

Hi The Shiner,

Yes it is in yellow, we can supply it any colour to order but would only recommend it in yellow for H & S reasons.

Just got my van back home after having van system installed last week.

I've got 50 meter 1/2" on one reel,

100 mtr microbore on the other in yellow.

Will test both over winter,if microbore is better I will order some more.

Showed my mate it today and he said hes going to switch to microbore.

Facelift who fitted my van system were impressed with the microbore,as they only put on 1/2" hose.

The coloured hoses seem harder than the black which I have been using since 97

Thanks so far guys.

I presently use hozelock yellow standard garden hose, but it is a pain winding back up 2 x 50m reels!  Some have said it's harder work on the pump if the bore is narrower.  Is that true really?

hozelock micro pipe

10 M's long

i dont like hoses as they drag through dog and cat crap and when you handle the hose it gets on your hands

i keep it as short as possible

Matt have a look at a Cordreel
http://pi-inc.com I got one from a caravan supplier £12 half the hose and roll on/off , keeps your hands clean and is fast and light. In practice - it works   :)

Hi Morph,

Technically the pump will have to work harder if your bore is narrower but in reality  they work just fine.

I am on my original flojet pump and it is 5 years old now, it has been pumping through microbore with a flow valve on the pole turning it on and off all the time for the last 3 years.

Thanks Alex.

Matt,
On some jobs I agree entirely with you.  Unfortunately I have one day every week where I need 120metres!!  Yep thats right!  That's the nearest I can get.  It's the only practical way.

120 metres, isn't that far we have one job which has a circumference of 500 metres!!! and you wouldn't catch me pushing a trolley round that far!!

Its not just the distance but the ammount of work, you may get by with say a grab and go unit holding 10-20 litres or a backpack, but for more work a trolley might be needed Then again a Van mount if you have lotd of work at a distance- but then you also need to be able to control at a distance. If you only have a few windows that are far away I would go for the most economical. You dont need a Rolls Royce if a push bike will do.
