Just got a call this afternoon from a guy saying he was from the Community Police Project (setting up a brochure to 25,000 local businesses .- exclusive deal within 25 mile radius - only wants reputable tradesmen - no rogue traders - Eastern Europeans (!) - really good deal) and that as a member of the Master Guild of Window Cleaners he knows I am genuine.

He got my latest mobile number by phoning home pretending to be a copper and blagging my mobile number off my daughter.

Watch out this is an old scam where they would go through yellow pages and phone up pretending that the NHS or the Fire brigade or the Police are setting up a brochure.

I have reported him to the police.

If you get similar you might want to let Nathanael Jones know (Master Guild) - I have just emailed him.
It's a game of three halves!

Why do these scammers always have a liverpudlian accent?
Anyway i've heard the spiel before so I just told him im not interested. But they are getting the info from the MGWC site.  >:(

They usually have a Liverpool accent as there have been a few companies around that area who have done similar scams with charity calenders, diary's, wall planners etc

Its common round there, selling supposed advertising or sponsorship of something for the emergency services or charity etc

Small call centre, staff on cash in hand.

Ditto. He said he'd get his publisher to call me. Got 2 calls one from an 0151 number and one from an 0161 number. I asked for a proof and he agreed to send one. So how does he get my artwork I asked at the end of the conversation. All went a bit quiet

Offered 4 different sizes from only 89 quid to £995 + vat. Be careful lads

I had a similar thing when I first started up.  They must have got my details from my new listing on Thompson Local.  As it was a new listing they probably figured I would be too green/inexperienced to question their integrity- more fool them- I ended up winding the fecker up so much he got his colleague to ring me and tell me I was out of order  ;D.

I asked this fella why they had targeted me and he admitted they get more response from new business owners as they might really need advertising and will fall for it and they haven't got enough experience to start asking the right probing questions.

I finished by stating clearly that I didn't want to hear from them again as I knew it was a scam- never heard a bean since- dodgy feckers  ::)

He told me he knew where I lived and that he'd come round to my gaff at 6.30 this evening (after I told him he was a scammer and I was surprised he wasn't doing the "firemen charity scam" or  the "kiddies dying of cancer so help the NHS" scam ...) - I said great you can meet a real copper then ...  ;D

Smarmy git phoned my daughter and said "It's the Community Police Project, I need your Dad's mobile phone number, don't worry he hasn't done anything wrong ... "

I phoned the real police (999 jobby) and laid it on about not wanting my daughter being intimidated - but what can they do? They're Avon and Somerset and he's prolly in Greater Manchester.

Can Dean Taberner do anything?

Thanks for the heads up on this Malc.

Just to be absolutely clear: The Guild has NOTHING to do with this, and it is a SCAM! Beware!

If someone could send me this guys number I'd love to have a quiet word with him,....  >:(

Nat/chaps

The numbers are: 0161 236 9865 and 0151 236 0741

These are the numbers for the alleged publisher, but he calls from a witheld number first. The publisher is probably on the desk opposite.

Tried those numbers just now - first one was some sleepy geezer calling himself "Netsearch Media" - the second was Virgin's own  automated answering service.

Go figure?

When I mentioned the MGWC is where they were getting the info from Nathanael it was because the caller mentioned the Guild in his conversation and its easy to get the information they require from the website. ie. business name, telephone number and contact name.
I've had phone calls from them over the past couple of years but I am aware of their scam so told him im not interested.
