Cleaning up dead animals
« on: January 09, 2012, 02:44:32 pm »
hi we offer cleaning throughout the midlands for crime and trauma scene cleaning so we deal with a bio hazardous materials and dispose of them through a waste management company and people always ask us do we clean up dead animals. Does anyone do this already or up to the council and how would we dispose of the animal carcuses? Do they need to be incinerated or disposed of in a different way?

If I remember correctly they need a waste note from a licenced incinerator which some farmers have. Kent Highways just leave them on the side of the road to fester. If there was a contract to be had I'm sure SITA or Viola or one of the other French giants would have bagged it. Did you do the trauma cleaning with nacsc and do you pay the monthly fee ?

Ill have a look see if it says anything on the enviroment agency website just seeing if any other company had come accross it. Yes did it last march so if theres an annu fee it hasnt come around yet, did you train with them and have to pay a monthly / yearly fee?

Yes I trained with them and there is a lot of bad feeling as they lead you to believe that work in your area that they gain will be directed your way  ::) I have had no communication with them since the course except for two invoices for my membership of their club ! I have done the Killgerm training for insects, rodents and safe use since and that is the best thing to come out of their course. I have done a de-comp, a couple of needle jobs and a couple of blood spills that have come through existing customers but nothing worth writing about. Pigeon guano is a good earner though. There was some talk that Lance at choc a block was going legal over them and a lot was stirred up. They sold it well and we all bought into it but it's all just part of the money cow. Ideal group seem to get all the jobs in this area as they have trained a few but I never paid their invoices  ;)
Killgerm advise the licenced incinerator on a farm if the pestie disposes but if left to the customer they can go in the bin for ordinary landfill ( RA re secondary poisioning) but there seems to be no waste code for dead animals just the generic one for anything not mentioned on the list

Ye well ive only really been actively lookin for work for the last few weeks as it took so long after for the hep b but i kind of knew before doin the course anyway i probably wouldnt get that much off them as most of their staff would cover most of the west of the uk so i went mostly just with the idea of doin the training and findin the work myself. Where abouts are you based in the uk were in telford shropshire. Ive had a quick look at pigeon guano but might go into it this year did u do any training for it or just used common sence like ppe and waste goin to appropriate places. Ye its the classic thing where if its domestic they can chuck it in a bin where as if u took the animal away theyd probably want all paperwork to go with it
