Actually, the site owner, Mike (all the other mods used to secretly call him the 'Miserable Gimp') wouldn't allow us an off topic section; he said he wanted this site to be a profeshunal cleaning resource, and not full of waffle; so when I was a mod (I took over from a right Sturmbahnhfurer called Philip Hanson, who went on to sell double glazing in supermarkets), I'd get a 'few' beers down me, and I started a thread called "A place to chat", and it was so popular, Mike relented and let us have the off topic site.

So it is kinda 'my' area of the forum.   ;D

Mind you, I still get the odd e-mail from David of St Ives calling the site owner 'Miserable Gimp', which makes me smile.

Are you sure? I remember you coming on as Chepstow Windows (and ruffling a few feathers  ;D) and there were more than 100 members then.
That's if it was you  :-\.  Was it?
And how sad am I?  :-[

I deleted a few times.  Tosh always accuses me of throwing a hissy and storming off.  Wrong, as usual.  All too easy to misunderstand online trypeing. Its all too easy to idle time doing nothing but exploiting that which is not meant but could be read into it and so put a controversial twist on it just to pass the time.  I would look back and think what a load of old rubbish on here, I could help speed it up by doing a bit of housekeeping, sweep away the old and bring in the new.

I remember Giles war and peace posts.  Met Dave Morris and family, very hospitable too.  Met Graham Gould who helped me with my setup and showed me his secret weapon.
Mike Boxall phoned me one day out of the blue and asked me not to leave the forum.

Those were the days.

Yeh, I often think when people get cross with me that they've only thought that they've understood what I've written, but I'm not always sure that they realise that what they've read is not what I meant.

Anyway, PJ, I love the mix of characters on this forum, including yer good self, and I know quite a few of them in 'real life' too.

December 2004 - when Tosh was windows_chepstow; Sarah Sarill was a moderator; Lizzie was on here as well, Graham Gould was ... well .... Graham Gould really! Squeaky used to tell us how he loved the soldiers at Chepstow barracks and Ian Giles used to be here.
It's a game of three halves!
