Hi Pat

I was looking into this myself and was cotacted by a company from my area who sent me out a price list and wanted 7500.00 for a 600l hot system ,plus add vat , i explained that i would need to get a new van first i only have an escort van at the moment and run a trolley system from it ...... said they would call back in the future so i have been looking on the net to set what on offer for hot systems can,t seem to find a lot, i know omnipole do a hot pole ( http://www.omnipole.com/omnipoles_pro_series_water_heate.htm ) which can be added to a wfp system .
And gardiner do a well priced van system which you have to fit yourself but they give full instructions (thank god) so it could only cost 3000.00 plus vat ,which does sound better the down side is you have to make it all work together yourself ,like i say i,m just looking into this not sure what to do , i,ll get a new van and a van system and perhaps go from there
i know it,s no help

I asked this question a short while ago and did get a couple of answers, with a link back to a much earlier post from someone else.

I think the general consensus is that it can help with impacted soils (bird poop and the like) and if you have money to throw at it then why not.

There are alternatives to the glitzy package from ionic if you can live (and sleep at night) with the retro look. The diesel versions from Eberspacher not only offer the same water temperature but will also heat your vehicle and equipment to boot on those frozen nights for under £1,500 depending which version you want.

There is also a bottled gas version (under £1,000) from a well known wfp supplier but don’t depend on them selling you it, as when asked the answer I received was " yes we do sell them but what do you want one of those for"

Some one else also reported on here that they had great success using a caravan/RV water heater.

I am not knocking the large resellers as with theirs, you will get a safe and tidy package which they have dedicated time and money in putting together for you, but if you cant afford it or in some cases you don’t want to be dictated too, then there are options.
Everyone seems normal untill you get to know them!

It,s amazing the company that contacted me said that they could supply a van and the system i said something like what change will i get from 20 grand and they said no it would be more like 22 grand ...
But again they also offered training on how to to maximise it,s use the van would be sign written and uniforms would also be supplied.
A little over the top for me but still it did sound really good.

22,000 that is a lot of money.

Ignoring the cost of your vehicle say £12000 you could use the change to set up about 11 van systems from our site!!!!!

Got to admit 22 grand is a lot of money but if you have large contracts that pay big money then it doesn,t sound that bad but i would rather go down the route of doing myself it,s just a matter of how long a gas canister would last but again it doesn,t have to on all of the time ,but if you have it then use it.
Right who wants to lend me £21500 i,ll put the other £500.00 in myself ;D

there is another way of course.........
~You can get a stainless steel immersion heater, cost is £240 or so, either hook it into your holding tank, or into your van tank.

Buy some cheap insulation and lag whichever tank thoroughly, use a timer to start the heater, run it for a couple of hours prior to needing it for work.

And either transfer the water form the holding tank or drive off in the morning with a tank full of hot water.

Providing you have the van and tank of course ;D

There is a link for that heater somewhere....but I don't have the time to hunt it down!

Matt,

You say think BIG, be BIG.

We currently have 2 vehicle systems and 1 trailer system running in the south west, and we have 7 of us working on many commercial contracts, how big do you want to be?

We have not spent £22,000 total on all of our systems.

Only spend your money where it's going to make a real difference

Alex, my post was meant to be a touch sarcastic  ;)

havent you read others boards  :P :P

seriously though

i would allways say build your own system, you save money, you get the knowledge from a bit of trail and error,
your more likely to be able to adapt the system to WHAT YOU WANT, not what they say you should want

its the futrue ;)
