How many 25 litre barrels do I need with a trolley?
« on: December 13, 2011, 08:57:15 pm »
Please forgive my ignorance about Water Fed Pole systems. I have been looking into whether to get a WFP trolley or not and I have a question about the number of drums  I need.

Current situation is traditional squeegees etc using my hatchback.

I'm confused when it comes to a ''DI Trolley''.

1)  I assume that a 25 litre drum will last about 25 minutes of flow before it empties.

2) Am I correct in saying that I then just need to refill it, or keep topping it up at various customers outside taps throughout the day and the de ionizer will do the rest?

3)If so, am I correct that I don't need more than one drum

and therefore can I drive to my round with an empty drum and just fill up at the first house?

The only lifting of the water filled drum will be when moving from one locale to another if driving is required.

This sounds quite good (too good) so something tells me I'm missing a major part of the puzzle.

I have another option which I will post separately about.

Thanks in advance

Hi
Im fairly new to WFP-2 years at it now .I think your missing the water filtering at home bit unless the tap TDS is very low in the areas you wish to clean. I need to pre-filter water before going through di to polish water down to 00 tds . I get through maybe 15 houses in a day depending on size nd have found 5 25l containers is okay for shorter winter days , you would need a couple more for those longer summer days .I thought about fixed tank in my vivaro but use it for other things so like to be flexible. Lifting trolly and containers in and out doesnt really bother me ,Im a fit 53 and see it as good exercise.I did find it a bit of a problem getting back late and needing to fill containers ready for next day with slow filling RO, Bought a booster pump which speeded pure water production up by a third.Dunno how far Im going with my business but some on here make vast quantaties of water very quickly with right resources but equals more cash outlay.

I think now Iv started rainwater harvesting I will use more water as Im not bothering about my water meter so much! I have a lot of two bedders to do which dont take a lot of water and I still do trad on some bungalows to keep my hand in- always nice to get back on the pole though.

you'll find in winter a lot of outside taps are turned off,  its not good to fill up at the same house every month either .  i carried 7/8   25 ltr barrels, but it took it out of my car - an estate-   my home tap water is 30 -35 and in town its about 50 so i only ever use di  but it'll take forever re-filling the 1 barrel all the time

a 25 litre drum will last 8 min as most pumps will pump at-least 3 litres a min.The larger ones will pump 5 litres a min.

True they will pump that much but if you have a controller in there and on/off on yer pole its lasts loads longer ,doing 4 bed detached and connie with 15 litres and it sure takes me longer than 8 mins .

i used to use around 8-10 barrels a day.just swap them over.purify water at home.my advice would be to get a tank instead and van.you ll soon get bored of humping barrels about.watch you dont do your back in as well!!youll be wasting time messing about re filling.

i used a trolley for a year.in hindsight i should of listened to the experienced guys on here and gone straight for a van mount and 100m of microbore.now i just turn pump on,grab pole and hose and away i go.much easier and faster.
