As above really,

Got a second hand bath im putting in to replace my old one. the new ones got silicon around 3 edges where it was previously installed.

Ive tried just rubbing it, can get most of the big chunks off, but not sure how to get it all off.. tried turps, and wd40..

any tips?

Use  fairy with a metal scourer or scrape off witha sharp chisel.

Hi mate. I tried a normal green scouring pad and it dulled the finish, so I think a metal scourer would be to aggressive.

You need something solvent based to remove residue

If nothing to hand try nail varnish remover

Test in an area but have used it before and had no problems

To remove silicone you need a product called "silicone remover"  :

You need Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover.

Method

1.  Simply apply Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover to the silicone residue with a paint brush.
2.  Go and have a cup of Tea or do something else for 1/2 Hour.
3.  Wipe off with Kitchen Roll.  Job Done!!!

UPVC Solvent Cleaner (We use Siroflex and another from a local firm).   Alternatively, as someone already mentioned, you could use Acetone.

We get this all the time with builders' cleans and solvent cleaner shifts it in seconds.

Test a small area first, just to be sure that your bath will be OK with this.

2.  Go and have a cup of Tea or do something else for 1/2 Hour.

What pH is scr? We have a job where black silicone has be tracked over carpet and we might try this on it as normal spotters still mean having to scrape and possibly cause fibre damage.

Having done dozens of these I can assure you there is not a product on the market that gives instant release to silicone which has been properly applied.  The advice I offer is just that "Advice"  but it is all based on experience.  There are many considerations when removing silicone from an in situ job to replace and we have found Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover the best solution for us and a very economical one.  It costs about 50p in product to strip a complete bath seal where as a tube of silicone remover costs around £7.  All efficient products that I have come across that do no damage to the bath, fittings, tile or grout need a dwell time.

We have also carried out dozens of refurbs mainly cubicles and hence its based on our experience    results similar with trade Upvc solvent cleaner (as you know these do vary considerably with suppliers- who stock various grades) or nail varnish remover very very cheap and easily obtainable for one bath seemed the easiest and simplest solution, I can assure you it has worked for us every time.

I use acetone for cleaning oil from drives where other people swear by OT8 or resiblock OR. Everyone has an opinion which is their right and just remember there is more than one way to skin a cat

1.  I believe in them!
2.  I have easy access to them as I sell them and therefore have a warehouse full of the stuff

Everyone has their own ways and if it works for you great
