I used to call myself "Bright Eyes" (to do with the windows being the eyes ogf the house)nothing to do with Rabbits..

then I relised link name with job so now I trade as "the window cleaner"

How about "Wet and Clean" or "h2o cleaning" just an idea
The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

David,

What is your current company name?

Mine is pretty naff.

I fancy 'Banzai Window Cleaning Services'.

Or

'Whey-Aye-Banzai Window Cleaning Services'.

The company that likes to say 'Choto-mati kudisai'. (Hold yer horses).

But I've never been much of a marketeer, so I'm not sure how much extra comercial business that could bring in.  Apart from large Japanese car making companies; like Nissan and stuff.

But I think they wouldn't like the 'Choto-mati'... bit.  It's a little like saying 'slow down'.  'Langsam' (in German), as the girls used to say to me.

I think I ought to attend Davids-a-Bishops course!  I haven't a clue!

for the traditional side of my business i go under Brett Walker Window cleaning, for my wfp i go under Pure Evolution  8)

Advanced Window Cleaning Service , is a good name for you as we are all moving with the times with wfp.  It explains to the customer what your service is about.
So yes i think it is a good name 8)

regards

Brett.

I don't know if the rules have changed but when I started out in 1991, the rules were that your own name had to form some part of the trading name.  This does not apply to ltd companies.  I realise that many people don't do this though.  I'll check with my accountant sometime to see if that rule has been relaxed.

I'm sure that as a sole trader you can call yourself whatever you want, I've been one for the last 30 years, the only time restrictions come in is when you are a limited company.

I think the name is good, it starts with the letter 'A' for one thing so if you put it in a directory of some sort it will be one of the first seen.

My own business name is ISM Cleaning Services, but all over the van I have simply put (in bold lettering) PURE WATER WINDOW CLEANING.
My business name is on there too, but much smaller.

I like the name you have chosen, there isn't a gimicky feel to it, it's nice and professional sounding.

Advanced window cleaning?  Is good.
Sounds better than "Retarded window cleaning"!

There's already a national co. called "Advance Cleaning", also "Progressive cleaning".  So you're ok there.

As long as you put on your tax forms "D.Morris, Trading as...."  All is fine.
And you can use the same name as others, as long as you don't register or form Ltd. or use something like Nike or Virgin, they'll sue the pants off you.

Perhaps I should have a name change too!
How about..."Get back in the kitchen woman, this is the way I'm doing them from now on, Like it or lump it, posh cleaning services."
Bit long?  What do you think?  It's hard to know what to leave out as unimportant...

Hi Dave,
You know what name i trade under and find it works a treat.
The kids picked my name.
When i was looking at advertising they told me it would be better to trade under a name.
I thought and still think it's a stupid name but people have remembered it because it has made them laugh.
And as long as it earns me money i don't care.
Everyone is different in there views.
I went with the comical name and am still trying to sort out some graphics so i can get my van signwritten properly.
I have even heard people in town mention my name when they have seen a w/c working on a shop, and say they want to get hold of my number instead of asking the guy in front of them.

I like what you suggested calling yourself on your post mate.

Just so everyone can have a laugh i trade as  :P"Jellyfish Window Cleaning" :P

How about 'Cornwall the place to live' or 'Cornish and proud' or something along those lines that relates to where you live.

Maybe something bizarre like 'don't squash hedgehogs' or 'I love my wife' or 'smashing windows' or anything that gets the persons attention. Even - 'I love the sound of breaking glass'....

Our name is eithers 'COPS' for private work or 'window cleaner' for commercial work.

If we needed to change our business name I would go for 'ban red tape' or 'I kiss windows'. My mates favourite is 'I love window cleaning'.

There's a builder around here whose van has written on the side 'I'm always slaughtered on a Saturday night' and another who is called 'white van man and proud'. Both are effective simply because if I've remembered them then?

Maybe I'm odd.

Cheers

Dave I have just changed my business name too. As my Mrs seems to have captured the hearts of most of my clients I've incorperated her name. We are now called "DAMAYAH" Window Cleaning service. When her English gets better I'm sending her canvassing. One smile and they'r hooked. Dai
