I lost one last week on a very good paying estate that was building nicely, had just picked up another 2 the previous clean to give me 8 houses at 17 pounds each, 4 each side of the road the road, could do them all in 2 hours without moving the van.

One right in the middle of them all cancelled with thier payment, they said they are feeling the pinch of xmas and fuel prices, this especially hacked me off as they bought a brand new BMW X5 AND a brand new BMW X3 in September! No wonder fuel prices are affecting them with those 2 gas guzzlers.

Used to feel as if I'd done something wrong when I lost a customer (took it personally)

Now still try and find out why (never get the true answer though)

Just look at it as thier loss now normally pick more better priced one's up to replace them

like most things its a numbers game
The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

I've not been doing domestic long, 20 years solid industrial, and I'm finding a lot of these so called posh houses a pain. We haven't any cash at the moment, can we pay by cheque or double next month etc. From now on I'm just going after ordinairy semis.

It depends really.  Sometimes when a losing a customer, it can be difficult to hide my delight.  It's not often that I lose one that I want to keep.  If I do, it's usually because they have moved.

It never bothers me.  I thank them for their custom and move on.  Some of them are honest though.  I've had customers who've said that they're having financial difficulties and/or splitting up from their husbands/wives and cancelled me.

I've even had one old bat who tried to critisize my work and when I dug a little deeper she told me, 'anyway, I can get it done for a fiver'.  So it was obviously my price (£7.50) that she didn't like; not my work.

Bad customers are a different topic completely though.  Drop them.  Condense your round into good customers only.

They're feeling the pinch alright! And it's car depreciation that's the real money guzzler. I mean, just imagine those two motors prolly cost about £50K between them - and in three years time they'll be worth less than half that - that's over £25K down the drain before they turn a wheel. (And if they buying on a loan add on the interest and if they're not add on the interest they could've got.)
It's a game of three halves!
