It all depends on the people involved, I quoted on the services on the M2 and I asked him about chelwyn valves and the like for the rams to which he said "whats the point - nobody has them on their cars when they drive in". He was just interested in the lowest price but obviously I was too expensive as its still a mess
there.

A simple spark arrester maybe but that won't be enough if used in an inflamable enviroment. A chelmyn valve shuts if the engine exceeds a set airflow which happens if the engine is racing if running on the airbourne fuel vapours. People on here a have said their rams put the machine a set distance away but you will need to get the rams from someone who has had them accepted by the fuel company. I only quoted on the HGV fueling areas

mmm... understand what the valve does but seems to be diesel related, as diesel only island hence petrol m/c ok ? I am looking at placing m/c 20m away just amending method risks.. just cant find any set regs !
thks for your thoughts appreciate it.

I've seen forecourt cleaning done with an electric Karcher locally and a proper firm cleaning one in Dover with a standard petrol Honda - I don't know. It all seems grief but I'm not short of work, if you could get it sorted there are loads of forecourts out there

What's the procedure with the flame on the hotbox then should you be using heat. Which surely is needed.

Never done a fuel station.

We do a lot of garage forecourts.

I had to let my insurers know we were working on them and it is noted on my policy documentation that I submit with RAMS.

We tend to work with the vehicles (and pressure washers) away from the pumps.

Works include canopies, soffits, all metalwork, car washes, kerbs, walls, floors and any adjoinig pavements.

There is an obvious issue with fire and ignition of fuel but a contained (vehicle) pressure washer positioned away from the pumps and possibly off the forecourt area completely is not going to cause a fire!!!

When you put your RAMS in make sure you let them know where the vehicles will be positioned and it should suffice.

Good luck

Thks Rob hope you dont mind me asking how much is your insurance ?
Did they not up premium when you told them you were working on forecourts?
Have you had any specialist training? as no one seems to know if there is any!?

Reason for q's  I have spoken to a guy I know who has been cleaning fuel islands for over 30 yrs!
His company has full insurance to clean 'chem plants' insurance cost well over £10,000 ! ....

not a good combination Hot box / fuel island ;D ;D ;D ;D chem we use doesnt require heat simply spray on allow to dwell grease oil literally runs off  ;D ;D sometimes just use disposable tissue no rinsing.

I expected a rise in the price but they were happy to include it at the price paid, after talking to the underwriters. The insurance is with Hiscox and I am unsure what it costs. It is up for renewal so I am going to have to get it out and have a look but I don't know what I have done with it.

Its in that safe place, with my passport that I needed to replace as I have forgotten where the safe place is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

We haven't had any. That is not to say that there isn't. I tried looking around when I wanted the insurance. When I renew i will ask them specifically I am covered for!

yep.... but thats just a HS company tailoring courses to suit. ... down the bottom it says its a trading name for a design company  ;D far as I can see not a set legal requirement / industry std like for example IPAF.
Seems amazing but you would of thought this day and age with HS gone mad... there would be a set std for anyone involved with cleaning around fuel areas :'(
Think I will make a call to my insurance + SAFEcontractor - worth a laugh  ;D ;D
