Mask & Shield - Can you recommend?
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:56:11 pm »
Hi

Got Amtico PVC tile floor to strip, rinse, reseal. Skirting has just been redecorated. What can I use to protect and shield the skirting from the floor stripper?

Please can you recommend?

Thanks

Grant

Whenever stripping floor finish I ALWAYS qualify they may need to paint the skirtings afterwards. In some cases the vapour released by some strippers will bubble the paint. Mask & shield from screw fix won't protect from this as it has paper based making tape on it and the stripper can wick up. Using it the other ay up means yu still have to twpe it on at the skirtings and I havent found a tape yet that is successfu for this. Best bet if it's heavy build up is to lightly dry sand the polish first or remove with a pocket scraper to remove as much as possible befo using stripper. I haven't tried roll and stroll on walls. Does it just cling with static or is it tacky?

Jamie

It is sticky.  We use it all the time especially in kitchens.  Good Point about the stripper our Terms & Conditions state "Whilst every care is taken during the masking and De Masking process inevitably stripper can cause some bubbling of paint on skirtings and occasionally when removing tape emulsion detaches with it although this cannot be helped we always take the utmost care"
