Help needed on stained stone window sill
« on: November 08, 2011, 07:27:09 pm »
Hi All,

I have a customer who has had a house built and the builders have drill into the rede brick work to put up some fancy lights.  In doing so the brick dust has fallen onto the stone work and seemsto have gone into the stone. I guess the stone is pourous. Has anyone come accross this before and can anyone help with some advise.

I have attached an image.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried to clean it with anything yet?

If it was me, i would just get the washer going and see if you can get it off with just water. It shouldnt need much more than that.

Vac the surace over the stain sucking as much off as you can.  Prewet all round the stain to stop the remaining dust migrating into the stone then lightly spraythe surface with a high alkaline cleaner, leve to dwell for about a minute then vac off.  reapply high alkaline allow to dwell then lihly scrub and vac off. then rinse and vac again.

Karl

It wasn't my problem!

I gave him a sensible solution!

If your comment was a joke and I am not convinced!
If he is not experienced he may have taken it to heart and tried it!
Have you thought of that?
Especially as you are supposed to be a "Clean It Up God" Therefore meant to be respected for advice!

Stupid comment then IF it was a joke!  Would you not agree?

No Kev, you right

i  retract  that advice , is was a joke but it could be taken the wrong way

sorry Harry i should think the cleaning shoul work ok,  sometimes though some stains can be a bit 0f a buggery

and a poultice may be neededif that does not work then as a  last resort light sand the offending surface unless its very deep .. and the material will allow with out further damage

Keep smiling

Sounds like a type of poultice, as mentioned above. Kev might know the exact product.

Try a company called stonehealth.. http://www.stonehealth.com

Good advice, will send samples too.

Have you tried to jet wash it? with just water? If you have a jetwash machine, why not try it, simplest way first, without spending money and time on products..not saying it will wourk, but worth a go..
