I find my hands stay cleaner by not using a ladder.  In answer to the other post, I have found that using something granular, such as washing powder (and water of course  :)  ), is a big help with cleaning hands.  I also have a nailbrush.  I am referring to what I use at home.  I don't carry these items around with me.

I find if you put heavey duty hand cream or, foot cream designed for cracked heels, first thing in the morning and in an evening, it reduces the amount of blackness that cant be washed off.

I use liquid soap and sugar to wash hands with.

I use a barrier cream in the morning and every now & then through the day use an ordinary moisturising cream.
I never really have trouble keeping hands clean.
When i get home & had a shower a put more moisturising on then some cream for cracked and dry skin before i go to bed.
This is what i used to do when i was engineering and found it worked for me. I used to get very dirty doing this job and a mate of mine i worked with told me to do this.

Thought I would add a point, The aluminium staining on your hands from unger poles is because just like ladders they are not anodised. Apart from being hard to get off, it also raises the risk of aluminium poisining, causing dementia etc. Stick to fibre glass or anodised poles(tucker, powerpole)
