dont like what it says on the website, compare part. like there is something wrong with small family business, and it underestimates everyone else reliability. I have portable and i do great jobs with my wife and simply have not £30000 to invest. If I had i sent it in different way anyway :)

Looks like it was cut and pasted by Edward Scissor hands but I tell you what, I bet you get a good amount of business from it as you have done a lot of things right with the tools you had available. Looking pretty does not guarantee the phone will ring.

The DIY look ties in with the local family business feel. I think people in the main prefer that to large slick operations or franchises.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

i do like the website and the way those machines work and kind of the job they do. I am sure they produce excellent results, only thing i do not like is that it says that we are good and everything else is an ass.
Making phone ring is a different story, good marketing is needed. I am pretty sure that with the best machine some people may do very poor job.

Some customers prefer big companies but some prefer to support local small businesses. In general, I think its better for economy to have 10 people with nice income rather then one with 10 times more income.

Johnny,

In my browsers (Firefox, IE8) everything is being pushed to the left.

Try putting this in your stylesheet for the <div id="wrapper"></>

div#wrapper{
   width: 1200px;
   border-top: #009 thick solid;
   border-left: #009 thin solid;
   margin-right: auto;
   margin-left: auto;
}

That should centralise the site.

Do you think 1200px was pushing it a bit width wise?

I have often wondered about this "Half Price cleaning" offer.

Does it work or would clients not be put off by it?

Theres a guy near me offers Half Price Cleaning on all his adverts,I go out of my way to tell people that his half price is the same price as my normal price and ask them to ask him when his prces were actually double what he quotes.To me it just comes over as a see through gimmick.

Maybe I'm wrong,what do i know as a newbie ???

hmm, it does look better this way :)

1200 should be ok 95% of users will use at least 1200 wide screens.

this will do the trick with less code, which may influence the loading speed
div#wrapper{
   width: 1200px;
        margin: auto;
   border-top: #009 thick solid;
   border-left: #009 thin solid;
}

to do it right I have to change few bits 2mrw.

At the beginning i intended it to make left, but its time for change :) thanks for advice

Johnny you haven't accounted for peoples' side bars on their browsers, I have mine open all the time because I have about a gazillion bookmarks.  It probably takes up 20% of my screen width, so I have to scroll left to right on your site.  That means in reality (from a potential customer perspective) I don't read it because it is too much of a pain in the butt, so I close the window and go to the next result in google.

The internet makes human beings lazy.  If it isn't all done for us we won't "work at it", we'd rather keep looking until we find a site that caters for our laziness.

sidebars?! I never considered that. What would you suggest? Change the width to less then 1200 or make everything using %?

Johnny,

Jim has a good point about the width. One of the reasons that Neil liked the other site (and perhaps, did not realise why) is that it is designed using "chunks".

Eye tracking tests have shown that the eyes prefer to read small chunks about two inches square. What they don't like is to scan horizontally across the page as this causes eye fatigue.

I've got some software that mimics how eyes view websites. The image below shows how peoples' eyes see the Ceansmart site (a bit at a time).
