Fellow Cc

I wish to purchase some software to keep a client database fir marketing etc. The two I have seen are getbookedup and cleaners mate. Would appreciate any recommendations of any others or thoughts on the above two.

The thing with starting something like this is that you do not want to put in a lot of input then decide there is a better way of doing things.
Most windows applications can do the the things that you would want as regards data bases and mail shotting.
The reason that we have not bought cleaners mate is although it is a good marketing tool it does not provide any inputs with the accounts so that the package is not comprehensive enough for our business. It ticks all the boxes in the way of marketing and sales but there is another side to every business that also needs managing.
Before you spend money on software you will find that microsoft office will give you some fantastic marketing potential with programs that interact. In a lot of areas there is government initiatives that will give you free training on some of these aspects and programs. If nothing else it will help you make a more informed decision on which route to take.
I am a great fan of sage the telephone help is superb and the products are powerful  enough to run massive corporations but you can use as much or as little of the package as you want. You are able to sign up for a monthly subscription which automatically gives you the latest versions free with unlimited access to telephone helplines with people who are patient and very well trained.

Mike i have to agree. Its been my main marketing tool for the past 2years. Once you gain a decent size customer base then you can get 80% of your work from them with very little cost by using cleaners mate correctly.

I've just read Peter's post and it all sounds easy enough. Maybe I'm a bit thick but I bought MS Office a few years ago and was going to set up an Access database and all that stuff. In the end I gave up because I was spending all my time trying to get the thing going when I should have been cleaning carpets, it was a nightmare.

I got Cleanersmate because it follows the keep it simple philosophy. It may look a bit dated and not have flashy gimmicks but it sure will make you money for the least amount of effort.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Microsoft Office Access is ideal and it's free.

Yeah on Pirate Bay maybe, anyway this had contact manager or something, complete bloatware for corporate numpties not simple carpet cleaners like me.
