The weather for Thurs 03.11.05
« on: November 02, 2005, 04:10:18 pm »
In case you didn't know......

Coutersy of UKWeatherWorld

A deep and complex depression will track NE across the UK during Thursday bringing a spell of wet and very windy weather to all parts. To the south of the depression a tight pressure gradient will increase surface winds into the severe category throughout Wednesday night and into Thursday across the areas covered by this watch.

Forecast for watch area:

Winds will increase tonight to give SW'ly gales in coastal parts of the area affected & during Thursday morning winds will increase further to bring a spell of SW’ly severe gales in more exposed coastal locations, and more especially in the English Channel. Gusts of up to 60mph are likely in general and with trees still in full leaf and the relatively wet soil, there remains a high chance of falling trees. Severe gusts of 70mph are possible for a short time throughout Thursday morning in the more exposed coastal locations.

There is an additional risk, with the arrival of the strong winds and heavy rainfall coinciding with some particularly high spring tides during Thursday morning across the south coast. This combination may lead to some significant coastal flooding and residents living in the areas covered by this warning will need to be aware of this risk.

Frequent heavy showers will follow on from the frontal rain during Thursday, carried inland by the strong SW'ly breeze. The combination of strong winds and heavy rain showers may well make road travel rather difficult for much of Thursday morning in the affected areas.

Stay tuned in to local forecast/travel updates and be aware of the risk of coastal flooding, structural damage and fallen trees, and more especially standing water, slippery road surfaces and poor visibility.

This warning may be updated tonight, should further model guidance suggest any significant changes need to be made to this forecast.

Ian Giles and Rosskesava - the most gloomy weather forecasters/window cleaners in the world.

Imagine the scene - in a Pub somewhere between Monmouth and Brighton (How about Salisbury - they might bump into Graham Gould ;D)

Ian Giles "It's gonna be the worst winter ever - the sea's gonna freeze over - doom and gloom!"
Ross (As in Little Britain) "Yeah I know!"
Ian "And the wind is gonna close both Severn bridges..."
Ross "And the Channel Tunnel too"

Ian "Might as well go home!"
Ross "Yeah!"

Ross and Ian find nearest bunker and hibernate with 500 gallons of finest ale until next spring!
It's a game of three halves!
