Noise suppression headphones
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:00:18 pm »
I am a stickler for safety gear and I always use ear defenders, eye protection, gloves but have never been satisfied with the run of the mill ear defenders.

When pressure washing I can have minimum ten hour days, did a double shift mid week at two different stores 60 miles apart, started at 07.30 and finished at 11.30 pm

That is a lot of time with an engine banging out behind you and a turbo nozzle whizzing just in front. Had a noise reading on the double shift, just as I was finishing, just under 90 decibels.

Just bought a pair of Ryobi noise suppression ear defenders from B & Q, with a rechargable battery and aux inlet, for phone or MP3 player.

Just put them on and without the battery I cannot hear the television.

I am using them tomorrow with the battery on and will give a report. Used my trade card and got them for £67.00.

Used these yesterday - all day.

Here goes.

Had to charge the battery up in the supplied charger - took about four hours and is rechargable

When you first put them on you notice how closely they hug the ears, also the quality of the ear cups.

Because of this they obviously keep out much more of the damaging noise.

They have a connection point for mobile phone. MP3 player, Ipod etc and I had my phone plugged into this.

I have a HTC Wildfire (after I broke my contract Blackberry) and the phone rings quietly in the ear defenders, I didn't feel confiident in answering it through the built in Mic on both ear cups, so fumbled around trying to disconnect everything and then getting phone out of pocket, by this point I had missed every call yesterday and had to phone everyone back

Feel this was the phones fault and not the ear defenders and when I replace with a decent phone there will be no more fumbling, though there is no button to accept calls.

When you want to speak to someone ther is no need to take them off, just turn on the button on the side and increase the volume and hold a normal conversation. This bit is quite freaky as it feels like they are inside your head but as your speaking the other damaging noise is suppressed.

Are they worth the money - yes if you do a lot of work around noisy equipment and value your hearing.

Remember you wont notice your hearing going until at some point in the future things become hard to hear, by that point it is too late and the damage is done. Look after your ears!!!!
