Van insurance
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:07:49 pm »
Hi,
I posted a couple of weeks ago as I have left my full time job and gone full time alone.
Am absolutley flat out, got some really good work in, earning more than when was employee already.
Can any of you recommend a company for van insurance, I have just called more than and was quoted £1300!!! :o

I have always had company vans or cars so no NCD.
On a budget so the most economical please!!

Cheers in advance.

I went through Autonet (broker) as they were most competitive for both me and my van and the old man with his.

Make sure you mention the fact that you''ve had a company car, as long as you can get written confirmation by a manager from your previous job that you didn't make any claims, they'll offer a substantial discount off your new policy (it's called mirroring the no caims bonus).

Hope that helps,

Ash

I have used Commercial Vehicle Direct for the past 3 years and find them pretty competitive. You also get breakdown cover included.

I insured with Direct Line for the last 2 years... suddenly they decided to put my premium up by 50% this year!! :o

This firm was the best, perfectly adequate cover and quite a bit lower than the rest: http://www.performancedirect.co.uk/van-insurance/

Can anyone explain how by adding a named driver to a policy reduces the cost?

Surely the more people named increases the possibility of an accident. ???

I expect it generates as a new policy instead of a renewal, so you get more competitive rates.

Statistically married/partnered people have fewer accidents than single people. In addition too a driver with a passenger is less likely to speed than a single driver.

Guess what I did in my pre carpet cleaning life!

Guys,

Each  vehicle has a base rate premium that does not change, regardless of NCD. one of the major underwriting carries for motor insurance wrote £1bn worth of premium last year but paid out £2bn. This is and cannot be a coincidence. Expect motor premiums to rocket over the next 12 Months.  :(

Aviva, but try them direct.

Best for us changes almost every year.

With no NCD it will cost so consider trading some of your personal NCD over.
