Gen4 on white wool berber
« on: October 01, 2011, 08:13:38 am »
Hi Members

I've been something of a silent forum member for quite a while now, but I'm always looking in.  However to keep it short, I've had a Gen4 Envirodri machine for a couple of years now and not used it very much (and never on berber), but a job for a white wool berber has been assessed. Light-medium soiling only in traffic lanes.  Does anyone have any experience of using this machine, with the gold brushes, on these carpets and could advise ? I've got HWE but the dry appeals to the customer.

Regards

Even with gold brushes I would take care. Use either dfc 210 rinse well with 105, or Pre Spray Gold leave a good dwell for both and use a Grandi Groomer.  It probably would not pil to be honest as long as you don't go mad but I would qualify this the customer if you are going to use it.

Very first job outside my own home - my sister-in-law's white wool berber.

Gold and white Envirodri brushes.

Mounds of wool and more pilling than a pill shop.  If I had brough my hair trimmers I would have sheared the carpet there and then.

Just a warning!

You live and learn!

Dear Members

Many thanks for the replies which support my views.  I'd seen the pilling effect on some samples I practised on a couple of years ago, but I can't remember if they were synthetic or dominantly wool berber.  Obviously I shouldn't let the 'dry' cleaning feature win if there's a non-negligible chance of damage occurring.  However, perhaps if anyone has done a job or two with a counter rotating brush machine on white berber using the soft gold brushes, I'd still be interested in hearing about the outcome.

Regards

PS  Just remembered Martin in Brighton has used the counter rotating brush machine - if you're reading this Martin, this can you add anything ?

HWE with a acid rinse the only safe way
"So basically its a big vax!"

Hi

With the envrodri you will get a lot of fluff out of it, you are not ripping the carpet, that's all the loose fibres coming out. i have done wool a few times and it always happens.

Gather it up instead of with the vac as it will clog it up, the vac the rest, it will look fantastic, or you could HWE it and watch it shrink it before your eyes, like a magic trick for your customers  ;)

Surely its not the excess wool thats the problem with a berber or any wool carpet but rather spliting the loop with the agitation of the machine to leave a very fuzzy carpet.

Never tried it for the above reason.

Martin are you serious about shrinkage on a wool carpet??  Youd better not powerwash a rug then!!
