What about using a  3 stage carpet machine, for gutter cleaning? That must have some power in that.

How the .... would you get the carp out of the tank ? It won't exactly flow out of the valve. I put a bag over the bin and invert it but it would be somewhat difficult with a carpet m/c

I can take the waste tank off the machine, lift it upside down. then bobs you uncle.

The pipes and u bend on ebay. Does anyone know the link?

This past week or two there`s nearly been as much going on
With gutter cleaning as there has with the `Groupon`threads.
I`ve no experience at all with gutter cleaning.Now I`m out of
Carpet / upholstery cleaning I`m thinking of giving it a go.
Now autumn is here,most of the guttering around my way,
They are `block chock solid`,not just leaves either.
Like my neigbour say`s though`. “ Anything is only a problem,
When it becomes a problem”.
Blocked drains are same.The average person in my opinion
Won`t pay around £2.50 per running yard for their gutters
Clearing out,unless it`s causing them a problem,like overflowing
Rain,damp etc. etc.That’s the price I`d be wanting and possibly
More for `blocked solid jobs`.
If I`m wrong,can someone put me straight regarding gutter cleaning.
Thanks in advance for advice and comments.

Hi Lewis. No you're not wrong. Nobody is wrong or right. The key is to find what works for you in your area.

Regarding pricing it is a difficult thing. Sometimes you sail through the job, and other times it takes an hour more than you expect. I always aim for £25 an hour and I never make over £35. Customer's expectations are different. Some people expect to pay £15 to have the gutters done on a 4 bed detached. Others are happy to pay £50 for a small bungalow.

Re gutter cleaning it's up to you to get out there and do some. there are some great and reasonably priced systems about. You learn as you go along. It just depends on how you promote your business as to how much work you get. But I think that gutter cleaning has got a great future and the people who get in early are the ones who will build up a solid client base. I'm going to hit all of my customers after a year to have them done again. If the gutters are solid round your way then I reckon you're sat on a small goldmine.

What system would you recommend for a complete `rookie`
At gutter cleaning like myself ?

It's hard to recommend a system because I only use one system and have no comparison. Mine is the ETS 3kW vac with a standard set of swaged alu poles and a selection of nozzles. I have a Clark 2kW generator which allows me to use 2 of the three motors on the vac which is usually plenty. The one time it wasn't enough I rearranged with custy to go back and use her electric. I also have extension lead, can of silicon lubricant to keep the poles running smoothly, pair of good grip gloves, sunglasses (even when it's cloudy because you spend the day staring at the sky), a guttercam and a litre of lemon squash (because it's hard work  ).

Systems I've heard recommended by others are Omnivac, ETS and Gutter Clean Systems. GCS seem to be the best value on the market. Personally I wouldn't go for a home-made system unless I could somehow get the rigidity of strongly linked aluminium poles (or carbon fibre but that is expensive). You can use an existing vac with GCS poles and nozzles - they don't cost a lot.

Other than that I can't help. Choose a system, find a custy with blocked solid gutters and go and earn some money

Never ever cleaned gutters with a vac system.
We all have to pay for our learning,I had to in the Seventies with carpet
Cleaning techniques and machines equipment etc. etc.
One thing I can tell ya,for myself personally,if to do a proper , thorough
Job for second story height no more than say 25 foot maximum.and it

It`s just that ya see some big money systems out there at 3 grand `a pop`

Gonna go far on them jobs as I ( a rookie don`t forget) see it.
At this moment in time it`s looking like a Clark 20 or 30 model for me.
Funnily enough,my own gutters are full right now,was gonna get me
Ladders out yesterday but for the wind and rain.

Just a bit of input, I bought a issa 640m 3 x 1200w motor and got the gutter cleaning systems 6 x 5" pole kit and a 50m heavey duty extesion lead.
Used it yesterday on a bungalow worked a treat! job done in half an hour.

I did have to modifiy the inlet hose as the gcs hose was much bigger but this was just a case of cutting off a small piece of the hose that came with the vac and pushing it into the larger hose it was a nice tight fit.

I have a lot of gutter cleaning to be done and aim to charge about £30 to £40 per average size house.
Got one booked in for next week in a close of about 10 houses looked at the other house's gutters and more or less all over grown here and there so going to knock on doors a few days before and get some more work.

I think there's a gap in the market for this work.
