Doctor Carpet (Ret'd)

Guys

I'm off to see a water-damaged mohair rug. Aparantly the ceiling came down, the rug got wet and has possibly absorbed some dye from the carpet it was sitting on.

Any thoughts about cleaning mohair rugs in general and water/dye damage in particular?

Hi Rog,are the people claiming on their insurance ?
Is the dye on the backing ( I assume it is)With mohair
Rug cleaning,we used to strip the backing, clean, then
Sew back on by hand. The chances are your bill will
Be more than the rug is worth, even if you get a satisfactory
Result for the customer.Ya can surface clean of course
To keep your `time spent down`,getting rid of the dye,
Can be done.
The excess on peoples insurance,,,,,well……………
If ya busy,turn it down,if ya ain`t `take a chance`.
If you`ve the contacts, you could take the opportunity to
Sew a new backing back on.
Most times though it`s like putting a `Rolls Royce `engine
Into the body of a Fiat 500.

Lewis

Thanks for your reply. Apparantly it's not covered by the insurance claim ???

Anyway it's a 6 x 4 rug and a strip of blue dye 3 inches wide down the entire length of one of the long sides. (Rug is orange in colour 8)

Decided that a barge pole was required although did give the option of cutting off and providing a new edge as a possible (inadequate) solutiuon.

I think in the end they'll bin it but in the meantime they've booked me to clean some other unaffected rugs and the HSL and bedrooms once all the re-building work has been completed

Your advice helped me prepare for the meeting so thank you for your reply.

It`s the `way to go`with anything like this Rog.
I wonder if that blue strip is `indigo`?
Cutting it off or down would involve having the
Rug `whipped`,then to even up the other side
Would have to be done the same.
What are ya doing with the other rugs, are they
All mohair ?
Anyway glad to be of help.
