Truck mount problem
« on: September 17, 2011, 01:05:47 pm »
Hi all
I have a steam way mastermatic omega 4200 with a kohler command 20 engine. The problem is when I put the revs right up to the max and clean a carpet for about a minute it starts to labour and stall . The engine has just had a full service and a new coil which is why I can't see why there is a problem .
Has anyone had a similar problem?

Cheers
Simon

If its a V-twin it prob has two coils - you can mess around with motors till you are ped off and potless but getting some good help you can rely on when you have a problem is a given - its not easy to find people who can get over the novelty of an engine driving a cleaning machine - but once you do find someone decent hang on to them - I have one invaluable contact who will deal with pumps and blowers and evrything else if pushed but tend to pass on engine running/servicing probs to another bloke

good luck

sounds like fuel starvation, see if it runs with the choke on a little, it could be contamination in the fuel.

Try taking air filter out and see if there is any difference.

Cheers guys for your input
The strange thing is that the engine runs as good as ever and the vacuum is very strong untill you place your hand over the end of the hose for about a minute then the engine struggles and eventually stalls .

I had a similar problem, like Shaun mentioned I removed the air filter and it was fine. When I replaced the filter with a new one, the problem went away.

Thanks I will give that a go .
A friend of mine mentioned that it could possibly also be a dodgy pressure relief valve that's not letting any air into the waste tank therefore making the engine work to hard . Has anyone had this happen and is the valve easy to find ?

You do not state how long you have had the machine or what if any experience you have of truckmounts.I would if I was you talk to somebody like hydramaster or somebody that understands how these machines work. It could be one or a number of things. I could throw a lot of likely things at you, but you would probably be better off just taking it to somewhere for a service in order to get some education on how to work with what you have. If you want to give me a call I will help as much as I can.

An update on the Steamway t/m

we've narrowed down the problem to the engine only stalling when water is being extracted ?

When the machine is running on its own just drawing air it seems to be fine and will run & run, the minute you introduce water when cleaning a carpet it shuts down  ???

The whole machine has been serviced and every thing has been cleaned and descaled, its just a mystery why it should shut down when sucking water.

In my mind this would only happen if the float valve is being triggered in the waste tank and shuts of the engine, but cant see how this could be happening with so little water going in ?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated,

Steve

Steve

Disconnect the lead from the waste tank valve to isolate if this is causing the problem.

Do you have a sensor on the water pump that is malfunctioning?

Find out where every sensor is on the machine and one by one disconnect them to see if any are not functioning properly.

Good luck

Have you absolutely defiantly changed the fuel filter and checked for air leaks on the intake side of the fuel filter it still sounds like fuel starvation under load, disconnection sensors also good idea to find the problem

Make sure the choke assembly is secure, if it shakes it can come back on causing engine to stall.

Paul,
I'm assuming that was done when it was serviced, but obviously its never a good thing to assume anything so will be checking that also in the next day or so,

 Brian,

Also a good idea to check the choke so will also be doing that check as well,

Thanks both for your input

Regards
Steve

There isnt a header tank, it has a kerosene burner that heats the water
