Mattress cleaning with carpet cleaner
« on: September 15, 2011, 11:15:51 pm »
Hi.

Is it possible to clean a mattress using a carpet cleaner? The same way that you would clean upholstery.

I have an extracta exel which would reach the necessary 60 degrees needed to kill dust mites.

I want to offer the service as an add on but don't want to start buying more equipment.

I'm planning on testing it on my own grubby mattress with upholstery tool to see what happens, but would appreciate any opinions.

What temperature is 60 degree water after it's gone through a pump, along a solution line, out of a spray jet and through the air onto the surface you're cleaning?

How long does a dust mite have to be exposed to 60 degree heat to kill it?

Are there any other ways of removing dust mites? ;)

Ultraviolet light (sunlight) kills them. Doesn't matter though, because not many people will want a stranger coming in to clean their pee stained mattresses.

Some of the machines for this type of work are as cheep as 100 quid. Have a look on you tube what sort of job it is. You'd make more money selling the hand held machines to custies.
