T.D.S READING
« on: October 26, 2005, 08:08:43 pm »
HI THIS MIGHT BE A SILLY  QUESTION BUT HERE GOES I HAVE 2 R.O SYSTEM ONE IS A  200 GPD  AND THE 300GPD.THE 200GPD  GOOD WATER READS 000 ON THE TDS METER.BUT THE 300 GPD READS  022 ON TDS METER.THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THE 200GPD HAS A RESIN CANISTER BUT THE 300GPD DOES NOT COULD THIS BE THE REASON IT IS READING HIGH IF IT WENT THROUGH RESIN WOULD IT MAKE 022 DIFERANCE IF YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

Hi Heftieboy,

We have a 300gpd unit and our TDS never goes below 14.  When I posted this very topic on here in July I ws told that because the water passes through the unit quicker than the 200gpd it is usual to get readings like this.  After polishing with DI ours goes up to 000.

Would be interested if there is a way of saving the DI by getting it to 000 on the RO unit.

The only way to get the td reading down is defo with a di after to polish it off.The only other way is if you live in a really soft area with an ingoing erading of 20 or under.I have a merlin and a 25ltr di after.I have not changed resin for 6 months.

You picked us up on that one during one of our very first posts - I think you called me a smart rectum or something like that !!!!  See I have never forgotten that useful piece of info and stated it today for the first time.  Thanks my mentor Gaza. :-*

The reading is TDS = Total Dissolved Solids = therefore when there are less TDS in the water the reading (which measures the amount of TDS in the water) goes down.

Any way the tap faces downwards so the water must go downwards too! ;D ;D ;D

What goes down is the TDS Total Dissolved Solids in the water from whatever to zero.
What goes up is the purity of the water.

A TDS meter measures the number of TDS per 1,000,000 parts of water. So the less TDS the lower the reading (but the higher the purity of the water)

with an reverse osmosis yes but it cant go down through di resin the total disloved solids are not disolved if the resin starts to deplete
