2 x 300w aquarium heaters
« on: September 03, 2011, 08:46:24 am »
after much deliberation and mind changing ive decided to keep things simple!!

no oil filled radiators!

no cutting hole in tank for immersion heaters!

no expensive propex heaters!!

no fogwash or l5 and messing about with gas bottles!

no expensive pure freedom hotbox,etc,etc!

im off to the local aquarium supplies shop for two 300w aquarium heaters!ill simply place them in my full tank of water and leave them plugged in overnight.on cold frosty nights ill also bring pumpbox, reel and poles inside to stop them freezing.job done!

i wont have steaming hot water but itll be warm enough to stop the water freezing!

gonna order a extend2wash pumpbox as well today then ill get rid of the trolley to free up a bit more room in my van!

regards

It'll stop your tank freezing, but I doubt 600W of heat will keep your pump & reel frost free.

Try 4 of them Daz,...  ;D

I agree...what about everything outside of the actual tank.....surely the pump and pipes which go to the back of the van will freeze ???

Last year the connectors under my back bumper froze and were a right pain, even tho I thought I had drain them >:(

Please tell me Im wrong.

Daz i used to use the aquarium heaters and it works. Stick an old duvet over the tank.

Doesnt give you hot water but will stop the tank from freezing up.

When you go to the aquarium, have a look at the fish tanks and see which ones they use fully submerged in their tanks and buy the same ones. Some are not designed to be fully submerged.

You want to drop them in at the bottom of the tank a couple of inches up from the bottom as the heat will rise from them.

I bring reel, poles and pump and put in the bath ;D

blue frog did you stick the aquarium heaters to the side of the tank with the suckers provided or just gently lowered them in freely in the water?

gonna try them out tommorrow night on the highest setting overnight and see if my water is lukewarm on monday morning.a "dry" run" sort of thing!!was your water warm after leaving them in overnight and what wattage were they?

bought two 300w heaters £20 each and bought an oil filled radiator from argos for £45.i also got a heavy duty extension lead.

its no good use oil rad when its -12  surely it wont heat the water  ,      I am using 1 kw aquarium heater in static tank which will be heavily insulated , then pumping water into tank on a morning

Just remember to switch them off each time before you take them out. They overheat and burn out in seconds once they are out of the water.
