Anyone used Stonecolour?? PIC JOB
« on: August 27, 2011, 01:43:25 pm »
Customer has a PIC driveway in really poor condition worst one i have ever seen  :o

All the seal has gone + most of colouring she was never happy with colour ...looks like the rinse wasnt washed of enough when laid / finally sealed...even needs local repair were she has applied salt  :o

Have option to either re-seal re-tint but we know when seal wears so does colour!

Other option to apply Stonecolour (Isonit) is supposed to have loger life span but will obviously make drive one uniform colour.. has any one used this in anger ??? ???
thks mike

I've no time for customers with PIC problems. If they want it cleaned, fine but they expect miracles when it comes to repairing or sealing them. They're shiite surfaces. Many company's laying them are getting out of the game because of the hassle months or years down the line.

just had a quick look at that stone colour, looks like it's water based, I'd check if your sealer can bond to it first, other than that you can buy solvent based, liquid tints, put a couple of them in a pail of sealer with a bout 40% xylene as a base coat, then seal over with a top coat, at least then the top coat has to wear away first before it starts wearing the colour away, and if you convince the customer to have a top coa reapplied every 2 years then you'll probably catch it intime before the base coat is exposed. Bit of a tip, stick to solvent, liquid ased tints if you plan on recoulring the drive as powder based tints can affect the sealer bonding qualities if you put alot of it in to give a strong colour

yer thks we do re tint pic at mo - dont like it as you know temp solution....

Just looking at alternative as this drive is soooo bad.
If you apply stonecolour you dont seal over it is waterbased suppose to be resistant to wear longer than seal - just seeing if anyone has used it in anger >:( >:(

Would you not lose the glossy shine thogh if you didn't seal over it? In my area thats what attracts most people to have it laid, the shine.
Also would the water based stone colour bond to the existing sealer on the drive? Or would you have to strip it first?
Seems a good product, not sure if it would work on PIC though?

yer seen samples satin finish as oposed to gloss, but cant seal over it will poss delam.

The pic job in q is so bad really on border line try to save or dig up! Cost cost cost

No problem with existing seal as theres none left!! Bare concrete

Customer had it laid 6 yrs plus has put loads of rock salt on it etc...
As usual guy who laid it never told her you have to reseal every 2-3 yrs,

Yep, they always sell it like it's maintenance free, people seem to love it as thyre driveway though and everyones having it, the way I see it the more people have it installed, the more work we get!
I'm looking into a similar thing to stonecolor, looks great, can imitate pic with it, and can be sealed with acrylic to give a gloss, again water based and also limitless colours availible, semi translucent colours to give a atique finish aswell ,will keep you posted mate as I'm not sure if it can be applied on top of acrylic yet, so might no be much use unless you strip the drive

hi mate, you can seal over it but you will have to strip the drive 1st as this concrete colour works by entering the pours in the surface... which will be blocked by sealer, only works if your prepared to strip the drive of old sealer 1st, so gonna swerve it, stick to solvent based liquid tints for the minute..
