Is this good or bad?
« on: August 22, 2011, 10:53:38 pm »
Have a look - makes for a good debate I think

www.groupon.co.uk/deals/nottingham/lasting-impressions-cleaning/698824?nlp=&CID=UK_CRM_1_0_0_232&a=63

At the very least you've got to hand it to them.  It shows that for those who want to work theres enough and more

It's bad, mate.

£41 for four hours of work!  Two of those jobs per day = £82

But Groupon take their cut, so the actual received cost is far less; and there's no guarantee of repeat work at better prices.

I'd rather spend the time knocking on doors than working for that; I bet I could make more money, hour-for-hour spent door knocking and cleaning those new cleans, and have 'guaranteed' repeat work.

well lets call it 4.5 hrs work ( 4 HRS + UP TO 20 WINDOWS) thats £9.11ph but he says willing to travel a 15 mile radius so thats potentially say £3.00 in fuel to come off the initial £41 which now gives him £8.44 ph plus that 15 mile drive lets call it 30 mins (THATS NOW £41 DIVIDED BY 5) hourly rate = £7.60ph barely better than being employed. ITS A NO FROM ME.

Don't forget Groupons slice of the money, which I seem to remember is a fairly hefty chunk from a previous post.

I think they have made another massive error or they are just stupid. they say they will window clean properties up to 5 stories and their wording has opened up the floodgates for conny roof cleans! on the gardening side of things they say they will remove rubbish too but there is no mention of charging for this at all so some custys may expect this in their bundle. seriously look at the add again read the t's & c's they are gonna be working for pennies!

There can't be much, if anything money wise in it for the company.

They might break even though & have achieved some exposure.

Seems a strange way of going about this though. The wording on their website could be improved!

If you look at the website, it's a company which employs; so the bloke would get his hourly rate, which at minimum wage, for four hours work, must be more than £20.50.

So the company must run this at a loss; especially when you take into consideration fuel and other running costs.

Are we missing something here?  Is this Groupon thing the bait, and the actual costs much higher?

It's not as bad as offering the first clean for free as some members on here seem to think is a good idea. At least they make some money. They then hope to pick up customers from those contacts which seems unlikely to me as they would simply scour Groupon again for another idiot.

yes - the company may make nothing or very little from the 1st time clean/garden maint. and as stated on the site this is discounted by 55%  (make of that what you will!)

But - if your quiet then this is a great way to get exposure around the area and then you have a good chance of repeat biz and or the neighbours asking for your services

i novel way to get extra biz - would be interesting to know how much repeat/extra work is generated longterm

SO THATS £3.80PH!  :o so if min wage is about £6 & they have sold 140 of these basically 5 man hour deals they need to make up a short fall of £2.20 on every hour so 5 x 140 x 2.2= minus £1540 spent on this little venture LETS HOPE THEY GET SOME REPEAT BUSINESS

Google "groupon a ponzi scheme " some interesting articles on small business using it.  Are the people interested in the service or the discount.

I would think people are interested in the service only at the discounted rate. for example a pizza shop near us was doing 15" pizzas delivered for £7 so we had a few of these  ;D but now they are £12 I wont be using them anymore

thats what one of them said. the trader cannot keep on repeating the discounts so the customer moves on.
