groupon (again)
« on: August 17, 2011, 03:37:38 pm »
hi,i know this subject as been covered on other sections but i was just wondering if you could make it pay gutter cleaning, say you normally charge £160 for a gutter vac and external gutter clean, you say you,ll do it for £80,groupon take £40(i think thats how it works),that leaves you £40 for the job,but hopefully the custy will see their lovely clean external gutters and re book you for the fascias/soffits,how long would the gutter clean take and would £40 be that bad a job even if they didn,t book extras...your thoughts please..cheers

i had a phone call of group on   they want a 60% discount and then 50 % of that is left  so basically you do the job for 20% of normal prices

40, is ok where i live for gutters and only take 2 hours tops,  great for crap weather

can you not negotiate or maybe put the original price up,at first i was going to mention the external as an add on but i think it could be something of a loss leader for the fascias coz they would really show em up..

I just really don't see the point when you can go out and canvass and keep 100% of the money!

Are you on your own or do you have staff?

OK, so say you do a Groupon deal  as mentioned.
You would have to have a discount that would attract people to look, before considering buying, so you would be looking at 60% plus.
Using 60%:
Your normal price would be £160 (which is quite high for this sort of work)
So you would be willing to do it for £64 and give Groupon their share of that aswell, so you could be down to £32 for a job.
What if you got 500 buyers, how would you fit all that work in along with your normal work?

In all honesty IMO joe public would look at your £160 price and think thats too high in the first place, so would you really want to reduce that £160?
Don't know where you are, but £160 around here would do a largish 4 bed house with guttering on each side and that would include fac's and soffits too.

Groupn works for retail businesses if it is done right, but really don't think it suits one man bands.

Get out their canvassing/leafletting, get your own work in at realistic prices. :)

some good points there, the thing is though, the custy probably doesn,t know what the going rate is for this sort of work and if they see the words 60% off they,ll believe it,s a bargain it,s just human nature,i do agree though with fitting my other stuff in,it was just a thought and thanks for your replies...

Groupon made a hairdresser in Brum go under !

£25 haircut for £12.50, minus their cut = £6.25

Thing was there was no limit on the amount of vouchers... when the company rang them they refused to stop printing the vouchers. They were paying their staff more than they were making on the cuts. They had hundreds of people come in with the vouchers. They lost regulars because the regs were paying £25 and the person sitting next to them were paying half that price.

Apparentley Groupon wanted the money from all the vouchers they printed too even when the hairdressers went bust.

Groupon..... rip off imo
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go
