« on: August 15, 2011, 07:38:40 pm »
Hs anyone verified their website with google so that you can use there website tools?
I've been trying ti verify my Microsoft live site by adding the verification code in the meta tags, but it wont work and google says that there is an error every time I try to verify it.

That's weird, when I google window cleaner dunmow, I'm on page nine, I used to be on page 1 a couple of months ago  ???

What sort of links do you put on a links page, how does that help?

sorry I searched for great dunmow, page 3 but dunmow you came up page 8

on the links thing I have no idea on why it works but it seems to boost rankings. just put a post up offering links to other window cleaners across the country and they put a link on their sites to your site

I have a freebie site that ranks first for my town, don't know how or why just does

Hi Lee,
When I did mine I tried typing the link over and over again and it kept saying error.
So I copied and pasted the link code and it worked.
Hope it helps

Cheers Jay

Thanks Jay, was it literally just the code you added to the meta tags?

Hi Lee,
It was my last website I'm sure I copied the code so google could verify it.

Cheers Jay

There are a lot of metrics that Search Engine use to weigh up a site. One of the most important ones are links to your website using the keyword that you are trying to rank for. Not any old links though; the more powerful the links are, the better your site is going to rank over time.

My hobby/part time income for a while has been buying/selling/developing sites. I've started 3 forums and they are all on page 1 for their search terms :)

Also, this is known as the "Google dance", although it should happen a few positions rather than a few pages. Google changes the way it "values" sites, so the rankings change. Also though, competitors add content/keywords/get links and then they are valued more, so you get pushed down.

The rankings you see on your computer might not be true to the real rankings. Google caches sites when you search/visit them so the rankings you see might not be what everyone else sees.

Thanks for the info, what links do you mean? Keywords?

Links from other sites to your site. Google sees that as good. If its a link from a link directory, it probably won't give much weight, as it knows anyone can submit. However, if it picked up a link from a good Window cleaning blog for instance it would flag it as decent and give you a bit of credit for it.

Keywords...if your site doesn't have "window cleaner dunmow" on it, then it's unlikely that you are going to rank for it anyway, you'll need even more links that you would with the phrase "window cleaner dunmow". Keyword density (the amount of times the keywords should be in the text) should be around 1-2%, so that means putting Window cleaner dunmow every 100 words (or so), that will help.

Not sure if that helps.
