What are the costs involved in setting up and running a website. I know nothing.

Thanks.
It's a game of three halves!

Depends what your after. You can set up a basic wordpress site and get a template installed for less than £100 if you do it yourself. There are a lot of designers that will give you a generic template, say 8 pages and incorporate your logo for like £250-350 though. Have a browse round Google.

Yearly running costs will be domain and hosting.

You can get free sites, but they are limited to what you can do with them and usually have advertising somewhere on them.

Next option is a template website... standard layout where pictures can only go in certain areas and content is static.

Last is a customized website.... built to your spec. These cost more than the template websites. You basically can have nearly anything you want (layout/buttons/pictures/forms) on there and can have a content management system which will enable you to change your website as your business grows / changes. Also you can intergrate twitter and facebook updates to keep your website updated easily (a regular updated site will rank high in google rankings - along with good seo)
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

you can spend endless amounts of money on a website i did my current one my self but i want to get a proppers one done soon by a web designer that another window cleaner told me about.

some times it's better to get stuff done by a professional you only have a few second to impress a potential customers and if your site don't look right or takes to long to load you will lose that potential customer

A domain name will cost £5 or so per year,.. hosting can cost as little as £3 per month (its often worth paying a little bit more, but not much).

You can get free software to build it (search download.com) if you want to do it yourself. If you decide to get a designer, it can cost as little as £99 and up to £700 or £800 depending on what you need. Most window cleaners don't need anything too complex, so I wouldn't expect you realistically to pay more than £250 odd for a designer.

I know a team of website creators, they can make a professional looking website, for around 400 gbp.
They are team of several guys, some working on design,  another on coding and stuff, and one on SEO.
They working on my site now, really happy with them.

Thanks for the recommendation. :)

I reckon Malc could come up with a catchy tagline too, along the lines of "everything that glitters/glistens not being "Gold""..

If you would like a basic site built I am able to do this. My window cleaning website is: http://www.isleofthanetwc.co.uk for a guide... The cost wouldn't be a lot.

Thanks
