I did that with my last spindle but the torque ripped the bolt out of the spindle one day. I think my drill or my technique was wrong.

Probable your drill, I've been using it for 10 months. You need a drill with 2 speeds, the slower speed with a trigger that can vary the speed will work well.

Good old screwfix, i had 2 of them for about 3 years used everyday as a coachbuilder, one died about 6 months ago but the other one is  still going strong, excellent drills.
Im not scared of heights, just falling from them.

Yu need a hose reel that has a nut on it that holds the handle on, then just buy a drill driver adapeter and the right size socket and use the drill to wind it up.

The setup that I have lends itself to using the drill because my reels are fixed in the back of the van, and the hoses go through the side of the van via ports, so the reels are at a nice height and the reels are facing in a good direction to be able to use the drill on then.

If you have your hose coming out of the back door, or have them on the ground then using a drill will be quite awkward.

Lee, stupid question but how do you know when you are reeling in that you are nearly there and its time to stop? What I mean is that if your head is in the back of the van using the driver how can you see what is going on with the hose?

Do you have a photo of how its setup so I can get an idea how you do it. Do you just reel or do you feed the hose through a towel too. Sorry for the questions, I am just trying to get my hear round the practicalities.

There are 2 of us, so 1 watches and says, but you do get to know how much hose is out, and it becomes instinct to know when to slow down to let the last bit come trough slowly.

I do use a rag to guide it on the reel.

you could put markers using different colour tape or paint on the last few meters to let you know when to slow down.

Do you have a fairleed on the outside of the van to roller the hose in? Looks a nice easy solution, cheers for the pic.
