solenoid questions
« on: August 10, 2011, 08:17:59 pm »
Trying to set up a solemoid valve stop mechanism for static tank  and cant work out why the solenoid valve is always closed and needs power to open it , not the other way round. ??? is this normal , ive tried wiring the other way round but doesnt seem to make a difference.
The solenoid is getting really hot after being plugged in for a short space of time is this normal? ???

Solenoid valve is known as 'normally closed' so once the tank is full the micro switch clicks off and the valve closes. It will remain closed for as long as you don't draw water without power to activate the coil. Yes, the coil will get hot.

on a similar subject  I have an ionic pro 5 and in the 5 years Ive had it the solinoid has gone FOUR times including the last 6 months as I'm now filling through my top filter.

is there an easy way to repair this or will I like the last 3 times have to go back to ionics to have a new one fitted again ?

So does mine. You can't touch it, but its been on for days on end sometimes and it's over 3 years old now. (Our R/O is a 450 gpd RoMan unit and does struggle to keep up with the demands placed on it to keep 2 vans supplied.)

Doesn't get as hot in the middle of winter though. ;D ;D ;D

Seriously, if you are worried, go back to your supplier and voice your concerns - good with a followup email to the person you spoke to stating your concerns and summarising his reply making special note of any statements such as "we will replace it under guarantee should it fail" etc.
