Purification Problems
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:58:21 pm »
Hi,
I've been having a lot of problems getting my water down to zero and could really do with some advice please!
I bought the system (Facelift twin R/O) a couple of years ago and naively entrusted the maintenance of it to my then business partner. Since he has left I have educated myself and found the reading was shooting up to 300! I changed the resin and that worked briefly. On further advice I have changed the DI filters which, again, worked briefly with new resin. Finally last week I changed the membranes. I had a zero reading for 3 days before one pump went up to 9 and the other to 35. I have had to change the resin again today to get to zero.
Has anyone any ideas? Could the tank be contaminated?
What would you expect the reading to be going into the tank?
Help!

Thank you for your reply. The water is reading the same from the tap as it is going into the tank after passing through the filters! All of the filters including the 40 inch membrane are brand new!

Did you flush for a good few hours first ?
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Hi Dave from what I can remember the membrane has to go in one way and one way only. It should have come with fitting instructions, i seem to remember that one end has a large seal on the outside of it. Hope this might help.

Just a thought, but do you know what your water pressure is? These membranes need a minimum pressure to work properly. Perhaps a booster pump might be requires, between the water source and the first membrane. Also, check that your feed pipe does not have any kinks in it - restricted water flow will affect pressure and therefore purity.

Hope that helps,

Pete

Cant really add anything more other than do you soften your water first?
We invested in a water softner that is fitted inline before it reaches our system. If your in a hard water area, not only will this benefit your house(you can claim it through your business!) but it also prolongs the life of resin, membranes, filters etc...We also boost the pressure up of the mains pressure before it passes through our filters/RO's as they perform better at higher water pressure levels .Having done all of these things mean that we consistently get readings of zero and its one of the best investments we have made
If your not technically minded, a local plumber would be able to set this up for you but the internet should be able to give you all the supplies and equipment you need for a self install-try it , its well worth the effort

Good luck :)
