Thankyou to all!
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:22:14 am »
Hello everyone, im a newbie to the forum after being pointed in the direction by a friend of mine. I just wanted to thank everyone for the wealth of information that you have all made available on here!!

Im just starting out on my own after working with/for someone for five years as a window cleaner. Over the last few months he has let his standards slip and has generally lost interest in his round and has decided to give it all up! Unfortunatly he has passed most of his round of to other people but has kindly given me 10 customers, all on the same estate, to begin with.

Initially im working towards getting these customers up to standard and building a good reputation with them, whilst starting to canvass for myself! This area of the industry is completly new to me so any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

At the moment ive just brought all new traditional equipment, ladders and a roof rack for my car as well as the relevant insurances......is there still a stigma with windys working from a car or has that passed now??

Anyways, thankyou again for all the advice available on the site, and the best of business to you all! :)

You should be OK with this so long as you

(a)  smoke on the customers' premises while working
(b)  go to work unwashed and unshaven
(c)  make sure your work shirts have holes strategically placed so that they can hold scrims and tools
(d)  fart whilst talking to customers
(e)  insist on cash only so that you don't have to pay tax

This is an image industry and I wouldn't want you giving mixed messages  :) .

Seriously now, car and traditional tools are an OK way to start.  That's how I did it.  I would suggest going to van and WFP at some point though as you can make more money like that - as well as working more safely and feeling less knackered.
Just make sure you keep safe.

yeah, no problem starting like that, it keeps the costs down 'til you've got a bit more established. Good luck. that's how I started out too, now I've just gone over to Wfp since Jan and everythings going great  ;D. Once you've got a decent round established you might want to go over to Wfp
