Battery charger help
« on: August 07, 2011, 12:42:08 pm »
I've got a sealed leisure battery on my van and the charger I have has a switch to choose either sealed or standard battery, I thought that it was switched to sealed, but it wasn't, it's switched to standard.

Does anyone know how this affects the charging of the battery, it's been like this for aggers without me knowing, and I've noticed recently that my battery isn't lasting as long as it used to.

shouldnt make any difference,  a leisure battery is meant to take a slow charge then dispense slow,  i dont think they are really any good for us,  just run off van battery

leisure batteries are much better suited to wfp
leisure batteries are deep cycle batteries
they are suitable for being discharged on a regular basis and recharged frequently
car batteries are not
they are designed to crank out big amps over a short period and frequent charging aint good for them
i know loads of you will now come on and post about how you never have any trouble or that split relays are best but i am not ridiculing your personal experience just stating facts ok

I use a thermapure and if I dont charge the battery up each night I never get a full days hot,   when you turn the thermapure on it takes a massive drain of power to start.

I have a trickle charger in the back of van which tops it up every night.
