Cutting the cost of your water bill?
«

Hi everyone
I am trying to reduce my water bill and I have heard that people do this.
Tell me if I am wrong but if you can prove to your water provider that when you are producing water that a large percentage of the waste water does not go back into the waste /sewerage system you do not have to pay for the sewerage part or your bill is reduced?
Has anyone else heard of this or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
If indeed this is correct surely we could all make a big savings for those of us on water meters?
Thank you

we do this with united utilities in the north west they reduced our water rate by 40% i thinkl they came out and watched us clean windows and watched a tiny dribble of water run in to drain which they said would have to be 40% reduction

You may be thinking of what's called surface water run off . Its nothing to do with what you produce. Normaly water that comes off your roof goes down your drain pipes and ends up in the water company waste pipes . if you can prove that your drain pipes do not enter their waste system then you get the discount. We had to fill a form in and do diagrams to show where the water run off goes to . In our case it runs to fields . in a built up area i think it will almost always end up in their system one way or other.

Britishwill Yes, you are correct. I had to wait a year before they would give me a reduction. I have a meter on my ro so I know exactly how much water is used for my business and have told them no waste water goes down the drain - I have it diverted to wheely bins to water the garden.
They have not put me on commercial rates either so that's a load of tosh.

each water company is different, but i dont care as i pay £12 per week for a lock up with free water
as the whole industry estate hasnt got a meter or gets a bill
