Pole Length
« on: October 21, 2005, 12:45:21 pm »
I spent a day this week with a wfp user who was kind enough to let me see the system in action. He worked with two poles changing between them for downstairs and first floor. This was due to the larger pole being to long in its shortest position to make ground floor cleaning practical with it.
I would like to know if anyone can advice me of a pole that is practical to use for downstairs and first floor to avoid having to constantly change between the two. I do intend getting two poles but would like to have a standard one I could use for the above and a longer one to use when I need to go higher, velux third floor etc.
Any advice on this would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome aboard the great ship 'cleanitup' James.

I joined in July and have found the advice on this forum invaluable.  In fact I recently purchased a water fed pole system and found some of the other guys on her more help than the retailers.  You get a good balanced, unbiased view on most topics.

You cant beat experienced replies and some of these guys seem to have experienced most things.

One suggestion I have it to trawl through old threads as they contain lots of info from past and present members - failing that dont be worried about asking what you think is a simple question - if you dont know the answer then the its not simple is it .

There are 4ft poles on the market which are ideal for downstairs.  I have seen them on ebay for about £50 including a viking brush head.  Do a search for window cleaning - they are easy to carry through a side belt and easy to connect.

Regards,

Sarah

if you had a 12ft pole in 3 sections rather than two this makes cleaning bottom much easier and it also reachs most uptairs windows leaving your 18ft or 24ft pole for over conservatories and third floor window.
if you search around you can find 4ft X 3=12ft

(sorry for spellings not my area)

The jets are the connections in your brush that fit to your hose,Gaz

James,

I've three poles,

An Unger 30 foot - perfect for 3 story buildings.

An Ionic 18 foot pole -  perfect for normal two story buildings, and most ground floor work.  It's when I'm hampered by space to the rear on ground floor windows that I have trouble.

An Ionic 4 foot pole (shortens to 2 foot) - never used it yet as I can't be bothered to carry it about.

Ian_Giles uses an unger pole for routine residential and since his pipe is outside of the pole, it's easy for him to unclip the brush head and use when space is tight.

I can't do this with my Ionic poles, so I've been squeeging those hard to get at windows.

Hi Everyone,

Sarah, Caustic’s remarks on the halfords brush – these are flow through poles and brushes, the water just runs up the centre of the pole (not in a tube like wfp poles) then it flows through a hole in the middle of the brush. DO NOT USE THESE AS WFP BRUSHES AS YOU ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE.

Caustic, I really hope you do not use this brush for doing peoples windows, you will give wfp’s a really bad name.

handy for cleaning the van though (should you ever feel the need)

Ive got a 12ft pole in three sections I find this gets most windows and is small enough for the downstairs.

Ive also got a 25ft ally pole bit heavy and awkward but need to have it for some jobs.

I've got an unger with hose up the outside too. (like Ian)

I use the top three sections (out of seven) for 90% of my work. But the pole will not go below 2 metres so I have a one metre piece of pole that clips to my trolley for higher downstairs work. I just swap the brush as and when.

The pole has a final one foot extention on the back of the brush which covers lower downstairs work
It's a game of three halves!

Hi Everyone,

Hi Ken, I did see Pure2o's add for their diamond back and also enquired about it. The Idea is good, by using sections to get the lengh of pole you require, however, there is always a down side, the cost!!!!
