im thinking of getting an aquarium heater and bunging it in my tank for an hour on cold mornings so my hose is more managable.anybody use one?could i say leave it in for an hour and my water will be warm enough to keep the hoses from freezing on the ground?

dont fancy spending a load of money on a hot system when cold is sufficient most of the year.just wanna take the edge off the cold water on frosty mornings.

I would imagine it would take a fair few heaters and would take ages to warm up.

Ive been thinking ahead like this: i reckon it would have to be a really powerful one (aquarium heater) to even take the chill off it in an hour?? plus u would have to be within reach of a leccy supplie. I was thinking of putting in a portable propane thermostated gas heater and leave it on low all night with the windows slight open to let it vent, but im not sure it will be safe? i may go down in the morning to a nice red hot van if u know what i mean   .  Has anyone used that wc anti-freeze from wcw? i wonder if that works?

I fitted a 3KW 27" into my 400ltr flat in January via mechanical flange. Costs about £40/50 for the stuff & a doddle to fit. Takes 4 hours for a full tank of very warm to hot water & best of all the tank acts as a huge radiator & nothing in the van freezes. Surprisingly, the water stays warm all day!

I'll set £100 to the side & this will cover the extra electric consumed all winter.

It can be done, it is more difficult to do it in an upright though. You would need to fit a mechanical flange & with it being upright, it would be easier to do this with the tank out of the van. Once the flange is fitted (the hard part) you just screw a heater element into it, job done.

If you want to do it I will go into it further.

I used an aquarium heater to good effect, leave on all night, water was warm till about 1pm, i tried using two and that made it even warmer, but one was ok for me, think I got the highest wattage they did, but yo could use 2x200 watt units.

Could always buy the L5 or put a camping heater in your van to keep the chills away and keep your pipes free, would save on electric with it rising so much...

apparently you can get 800w aquarium heaters.surely 3-4 hours in the morning should get your water warm?(350L TANK)

i really wouldnt spend 3 grand on a pure freedom heater.

It will take 3-4 hours for a 3000W immersion to get 350litres nice and warm in winter.
