I think Nicks are a bit dear!! & was looking for a cheaper D I Y option
Quote from: Richard 01903 on July 30, 2011, 08:10:21 pmI think Nicks are a bit dear!! & was looking for a cheaper D I Y option Nicks poles are £27.50 plus VAT. Don't forget that they are swaged (ie narrowed at the end to allow next pole to slot in) and have a clamp - vitally important to make sure the poles stay firmly fixed together. His poles are also tried and tested. I wonder how many he had to make and reject before he found the exact right specification. It is true to say that Nick probably makes a small profit too which is handy when you have bills to pay and children to feed. I doubt if Nick will suddenly be heading for Las Vegas if you buy 5 poles from him.In my opinion the DIY kits that quite a few have rushed to make are a good idea but I don't know if the poles will stand the rough and tumble of regular gutter cleaning (I might be wrong). I'm thinking mainly of when a gutter cleaner has to apply a strong lateral pressure to the pole to agitate a large obstruction in the gutter. I personally wouldn't fancy trying to do this with a 25ft length of plastic downpipe.I think you need to see the poles not from their unit cost but from the potential return they can generate. I charged £140 for a 4 hour gutter clean today - not far off the cost of 5 poles. Why would I want the hassle of buying aluminium poles, finding someone who can swage them and the sourcing the clips in the hope of saving fifty quid?Worth repeating on this thread that I don't know Nick and I have never met him.

Scoop I get wot your saying, sometimes D I Y works out more exspensive and more hassle! :
