Shop around and you can get a better deal.

I have a new accountant - £120

My previous accountant charged £840 - that was a partnership - but we did everything else ourselves
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

I wonder just how thourough they are when they spend so little time on your accounts.
You may as well do them online for yourself as I doubt they have the time to really save you tax £'s.
I would ask them exactly what they have done to save you money.

I bet there is a forum full of accountants cursing all the 'cowboys' who do accounts for £120.
The equivelant to the 'summer brigade' window cleaning wise.

Find someone who is obsessed with finding ways for you to pay less tax rather than someone who will simply fill out what you have already done.

i was told to keep a book where I write down all my earning every week.  Then in the back of the book I have my expenses.  I split them into things like parking, vehicle, equipment, fuel etc and then I have columns  saying date, amount, type of expense, method of payment (cash or bank).  Then I put a number on every receipt I have and I put that number in the book next to the details of the payment.  It only takes half an hour every couple of months and saves me £150 every year

A good accountant knows all the tricks to get your liability down much more than the amount they charge.

G.B. Go to WH Smiths and get an accounts book called SIMPLEX D
it is a self explanatory accounts keeping book, great for keeping accounts, you just enter every day your incoming (earnings ) and outgoings  (anything you spend, diesel, tools ect) and hand it to your accountant at end of year.
Go and look for one mate, very simple to fill in and is industry standard book for accountants and Tax man alike.

if your not a computer wizkid stick to pen n paper, always remember this analogy K.I.S.S. =

K   Keep

Your missing the point, even if you put down your income and expenses, there are other tricks the accountants know in order to reduce your final payment to the Tax man.

For example, I have used 4 different vehicles for work last tax year and for one of them he has asked for mileage only as putting down p per mile will be a higher figure than the receipts will be.

Sure they will be happy to accept your best efforts as the end result will be more for them and less for you.

Just get an accountant, pref one that has stopped having acne and knows his stuff.
