I `ve been given the heads up , on a possible job , which will include the use of a cherry picker ,, only 10 metres , high , but its an up and over job .

What are the rules? please, I`ve been told you get traied by the hire company when you hire it , but i was always under the impression , you needed a card , to say  you have obtained adequate training to use such equipment .

Any comments appreciated.

Yes, you should have a days training, cost about £185ish and then you get a certificate which you probably will have to show whoever is in charge of Health & Safety on the job. Probably need a harness as well which has to be inspected and pased after every use. Better to hire it with the cherry picker, the do al that. Hope this helps you. Denise

Yes you will need a IPAF card which last for 5 years, safety is a must...

Thanks Denise , I was thinking along the same lines as your comment , but apparentley , all i needs is an account to hire , and as long as the client is OK , and gives the Thumbs up to use it i`m OK.
This came from a man who hires the equipment out from a very well known company!

I am willing for a shilling lol.

Would i need to readjust my (PL) Insurance though ?

just because they will hire it to you you will still need an ipaf licence, and you will need to let your insurance company know,

it is up to you to have a license, if any thing happens, u will be the one in court and the defense of the bloke in the shop said it was ok wont stand,  plus the client will say he said he was qualified

If the job is a one off then you can ask the access company if they will provide an operator( only few do this for extra charge) if the job is not a one off and will be frequent then do the test it will save money.

Make sure you add costs to quotation though.

If you choose to have an operator from the hire company then you do not have to be IPAF trained only the person operating the plant.

Always use your own harness though as companies will not provide.

The IPAF licence lasts 5 years before a re-fresher and if you are going to use it often then do the test.

Just my thoughts. ;D

Go on either Kingfisheraccess.co.uk or facelift.co.uk

I had mine with facelift and cost £190

There might be different ones for your region so google and get prices
