He didn't like the 180 for the carpet cleaning either but called back after a few weeks and booked it. Not many people around here doing leather.

I think the forum has been infiltrated by the Gestapo. Oops, sorry, that's a war thing. It's your fault, Neil ;D

Come on guys. I've been watching the Groupon and following threads for a while and biting my tongue. I know we all indulge in a bit of 'Pub style' banter, but this is beneath you all.

Cozy is one of our own. From what I can see he is a Brit who speaks fluent German for whatever reason (maybe his parents were in the Armed Forces like lots of Brits) and who has located in Germany because he likes it there. If you've never been to Germany then go and visit it. It's a country with an enviable standard of living. Maybe Cozy is German. I don't know. But if he is, I wish I spoke German like he speaks English.

As for the French, I have some experience of my own. I lived in France for 13 years and I speak fluent French. Not 'Je veux une biere'. Fluent French to the point where a Frenchman wouldn't know I'm English. As an Englishman I have spent many hours debating with the French about our historic past rivalries. And undoubtedly we bailed them out in WW1 & WW2 and we wupped them at Trafalgar and Waterloo. But if you go back a bit further you'll find that the Norman Conquest and the Doomsday Book and every ancient church you see in every town and village in England and Wales was as a result of the English (Saxons) surrendering at Hastings and our country being overrun by the French. They'd get me with it every time.

So is this a debate about the French surrendering 71 years ago or us surrendering 945 years ago or the Germans surrendering 66 years ago?

Or is it a debate about whether an online voucher company is offering good value for money to the hard-working tradesmen and women who place faith in their scheme?

Surely the mods shouldn't be locking and deleting threads for it. If a post is vitriolic then delete the post. But for heavens sake, if the debate is fair and healthy then let it flow. Emotions do run high in debates - that's a good thing.

Don't wish it were easier. Wish that you were better - Jim Rohn

It's just light hearted banter, and a bit of a protest at the threads being locked.

Hope you didn't put too much thought in to your reply, it'll be gone in the morning.

I'll give it a rest now and as the French would say "I give up"  :-*

Perhaps he'll see the light then, although I suspect it was his wife who must have said 'No' as I had to phone him back to hear the bad news ;D
So if anything goes missing off the driveway I'll know where to start looking, but I haven't forgotten and you're on the list to visit too ;)

I just got a "Smacked bottom" off a mod for being "disruptive and child like" or in plain English, disagreeing with another member of CIU. So I couldn't log in for 7 days.

I'm British, living in mid northern Germany. Lovely place. Standard of living is great, and when you live work and play with "Ze Gurmuns", you tend to see some things the same way as they do. Not the war or football, but everything else.
They do actually have a sense of humour, but it's basic Laurel & Hardy stuff, at best, Tommy Cooper. So living here needs to be gotten used to.

Since I've been on CIU, about 2 years, not surprisingly, being a window cleaner, as I posted on that section, most of the other window lickers window cleaners thought that I was German. They seemed to think that all foreigners could spell English as well if not better than the average Brit. Funny how short sighted and untraveled we Brits can be don't you think? I'm used to some people assuming that because someone lives abroad, they must be foreign. These sort of people are usually the same ones who's only experience of world travel is Benidorm or some place similar, where all you have to do to get understood is talk loudly to the waiter!! ;D

Just wanted it known that being a Brit, I liked Fawlty Towers too. I've found that the Brit humour has moved on quite a lot though, just not for some of the members on here. ???

Also, that 3rd goal in 66 didn't cross the line. So England won 3.2 really. ;D

I think I got away with it last time but I don't want to push my luck ;D

A friend of mine is German. He spent a year over here and we used to go surfing in Cornwall every other week. He could not believe girls wore make up to go out in England! He had a fantastic sense of humour.

Anyway...

He bought a video copy (it was 1990s) of the "don't mention the war" episode to show his mates. Apparently they all loved it.

I know another guy who is a golf pro in Germany. He took a friend of mine to see Bayuern M against Man U. Took a whole first half of abuse in German and then casually started a conversation with the home fans at half time. Apparently the look on their faces were priceless.

Oh, and he was also at the famous 5-1 England win... when the English supporters stated up the "Dambusters theme" chant

September 1st 2001.......I was on holiday in Kos during that game!  The whole strip of seafront bars were decked out, mostly in union jacks, but with a fair few German flags too.

One of the highlights of my life, England thrashing Germany, whilst on a brilliant holiday with my mates, oh and getting lucky with the ladies too 8)
