Urine Stains on safety flooring
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:32:30 am »
Hi can anyone help. I have aquired a contract and in the bathrooms there are urine stains on the floor. It is safety flooring. I have tried just about everything I can think of and I am using a rotary scrubber.

Thank you in advance.

The problem is you will probably find the flooring has been acid etched by the acid in the urine.  It also produces a novovirus which cannot effectively be neutralised by normal products.  A test was done on some cruise ships and they found that the only effective thing was chlorine bleach.  However, that said I would do a test in an inconspicuous area first in case the bleach ruins the flooring especially if they have used a cheapo.  Jamie from CSUK has a fair amount of experience in this area and may be able to help further.

Chemspec Urine Contamination Treatment left for long dwell may help break down the urine.

Failing that bleaching will be the next option.

Thank you. Bleaching I thought would be worth ago but it does state on the manufacturers guide lines that it should not be used. So I thought I should leave it as a last resort.

Thank you for your sugestions.

You might want to try peroxide rather than chlorine bleach as a start.

Clean the floor and rinse thoroughly prior to applying the UCT.

Altro actually recommend using bleach on their floors as a last resort, but certain stains can be permanent
on safety flooring.
