How Many Litres
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:08:56 am »
The post on Bissell  started me wondering how many litres of cleaning solution is used to clean a 200 square feet carpet  with solid traffic lanes

Does this vary from portable to portable

Would a truck-mount use more or less?

Surely this would depend on agitation, chemicals used (fresh water rinsing), dwell time, pump flow rates, temperature, jet size and thats only the stuff off top of my head.

and more importantly, how soiled, the secret is to lay down the perfect amount and every job is different.

wasn't trying to be cocky ian if thats how you read it, i just believe everyjob is different and its something you learn with experience, exactly how much to put down.

Think it comes with experience with how much to put down before extraction..

On the average job of cleaning a carpet, a TM uses more water. The chemical element if using a detergent through the wand, is more diluted as the TM's pump has a greater flow rate than a porty. For this reason there is a greater flushing out with a TM.
Great immediate results can be achieved with a porty, because the detergent mix is stronger as is any residue left in the carpet.

All depends on what products you are using surely.

I did a test once put some cleaning solution on a plate little if any residue you needed a microscope

Love to test a truck mount for residue.

But to be honest although i thought Dave was mad when he bought such an expensive bit of kit if I wasc a better Parker I would love it .

I'd probably get through 40-60 litres of water with my TM on a 200ft job, if it needed a lot of flushing through.

My TM doesn't dump to the waste tank to cool itself so probably the lower end of that if I'm honest.

With my Ninja I'd have probably used 2 bucketfuls, so approx 22 litres.

In both cases that's with a detergent free pre-spray such as m-power or microsplitter, water usage would probably be more with detergent pre-spray

What I meant was, that with a porty when using a detergent solution, you add the chem direct to the clean water in the machine. this is then used at that dilution.
With a TM, a concentrate mix is used in the chem jug, which is then metered into the water making a detergent solution. This solution at the wand is more diluted than at the wand of a porty.
I used porty's for 23 years before going TM. Since I changed I use far less detergent. I know there is more to than just dilution, but I no longer get split finger tips caused by strong mix.
